So apparently because whenever the pollies go overseas, nobody knows where the hell Adelaide or South Australia are, they now want to "rebrand" and "rename" our state.

Um. I wouldn't expect to go to Australia and have people there know where my state (in the US is). I would guess South Australia is somewhere in the south of Australia. Honestly unless I am planning a trip there I don't think I need to know more than that.

to be honest I can only name where California, Florida and Texas are.



ETA: Yes you are correct, we are in the South. We are not the Bible-belt state though

One of my rare claims of fame in High School. First day of my 10th grade "Recent History"Class, I was the only one who could correctly ID all 50 US states on a blank map of the US.

I was awesome at state locations when I was a little kid. We had this giant state puzzle that I would mess around with all the time. According to my parents I'd look at clouds in the sky and say what state they looked like Not sure what happened to that love of geography, but I've pretty much retained my knowledge of where states are. For some reason, though, I have a lot of trouble reasoning exactly how far east or west a state which is north or south of me is. If that statement is confusing, what I mean is, when I go on a road trip to another state, I have a lot of trouble figuring out exactly where the state I'm going to is in relation to me, even though I could easily place it on a map. Like, I'll think I need to go northwest and it turns out that will actually lead me to the state next to the one I need to go to, and I can't rationalize that with the way the map looks in my mind. I dunno, it's hard to explain. Maybe I just have problems with spacial reasoning.

I should add that most of the states associated with Australia are usually the "eastern" states. That is, New South wales (NOT Sydney, Sydney is the town, not the state ), Victoria and Queensland.

South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory are all self-explantory. Victoria and Queensland were both named after Queen Victoria (the monarch at the time), New South Wales was the original "state" and Tasmania was named after the explorer Abel Tasman.

And while our state might supposedly be "sleepy", we in fact hold the location of where the explorers Matthew Flinders and Nicholas Baudin met-it's called Encounter Bay and it's a beautiful place to go to
