To be bluntly honest, every really good MMO player I've known, like *seriously* good. Not just good at one e-peen thing like dps. But rather the sort that flawlessly leads huge guilds, entire alliances and major raids, has been a woman.

God, one of my oldest friends in the online gaming world has been my guild/raid leader for over a decade across at least 4 or 5 games. I'd follow her into Hell and she's had occasion to lead me there more than a few times. Without her, me and my circle of male gaming compatriots just waddle around goofing off and congradulating ourselves if we can make it through a 5 man without Drinky getting killed.

Whisky and DPS don't go together, but by god he keeps trying.

Sure they do. You've just never met my guild's elemental shaman. I swear if he ever shows up to a raid sober, I'll probably pass out cold from the shock. But he's good, pulls decent numbers, doesn't stand in fire and cracks us up for a few hours a couple days a week.

Drinky hits things fairly hard. its the target selection, danger avoidance and a fondness for AoE that are a problem. We simply stopped healing him then rez him after fights. Its easier that way for everyone involved. No stress on the healer and he doesn't have to pay attention for a couple minutes. ;p

Yeah, that's never a good combo unless you're a plate wearing class who can take a few hits (death knights ftw ) Even then, you better be willing to do some serious sucking up to your healer.

Um, at least try to recognise a flippant remark when you see one. -.-

Ouch. Playing and drinking at the same time is great fun, but then again, I'm a paladin. Wear plate, self-heal, and smash things with a hammer!!!!

One thing I have noticed some.. and very very few in the grand scheme of things, and it really annoys me is how they will try the 'but im a girl, wont you please help me?'

What, like they are helpless or something. Its a very tiny minority and seems to piss off the other girl gamers more than me.

Had this one gal who had a really annoying laugh when ever she fell into the lava in MC, which wsa all the time because her comp sucked... why yes she was a hunter, howd you know?

Kinda like the ones who beg for others to gift them stuff. I was once moaning to a friend about all the noobs who beg for gold on Gaia, and he said that it's the same on online games like WOW; there's a lot of people who think that the more experienced and/or richer people have a duty to give free stuff to the newer gamers.

While it's true that quite a few of them are seemingly female, he reckons that a lot of these so called females are actually males pulling the "damsel in distress" card to get free stuff.

My guild has a number of raids going on and the raid leader division is usually a man and a woman (in fact, I don't recall any raid teams we have that anything but). Want to see someone get punted from a raid damn fast? Have them go "OMG you're a girl?" when the woman RL speaks. They don't get anything else out before being punted from the raid, kicked out of Vent, and if they're lucky they might manage to stay in the guild.

That's not to say that the women get put on a pedestal either. Girl players who pull the "Yeah I'm a girl gamer, wanna make something of it?" attitude without provocation or pull the "I'm an innocent little girl, do this thing for me teehee" last about the same amount of time.

Put simply if you don't contribute to the guild or are a detriment to it, whether with the game or in a social aspect ( we have some people who contribute by just being a laugh to be around) you get punted pretty quick. Want to have an issue about it? The guild leader will come online and in vent, pull you aside, and in a discussion of no less than 10 expletives tell you precisely why you are gone and not coming back.

I'm a gamer. I also happen to be a girl. However, it's not something I'm about to go spouting off randomly like some seem to, which grates on my nerves like nothing else. Why does it matter? The only players that are about to spout off the "girl gamer" bit randomly are only out for attention, and probably can't even play the game Hell, when I used to be a hardcore raider in vanilla WoW, some of my guildmates didn't even know I was a girl for a long time (I played a male character and never talked on Teamspeak because the sound was all messed up and I couldn't figure out how to fix it). I was damn good at what I did, too. I happened to know a member of the guild from a small raiding alliance we were both part of, and happened to ask him about his guild at the perfect time when it was breaking apart and becoming a new-formed one. I got into the guild easily, and was taken on a farm raid. I must've impressed the main druid with my healing ability because I earned myself a permanent spot after that

Another amusing story from my WoW days... I was running around with one of my female alts and a couple of male friends who were also playing female alts. We were questing in zones lower than our levels, and doing it with no gear on, because we were being silly Some random person saw us and starting whispering me, asking me if I was a girl IRL. I figured he was just whispering all of us, but nope, just me. Maybe my female pheromones permeated through the server connection somehow, or he took a really lucky guess. The annoying part, he kept following us around until we had to switch characters for a while, even though I blew him off. Some people can't take the hint, blunt as it may be.
