  • Haircut for a haircut?

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/ipad/eye...-1226407084273

And yes, this one is available for full viewing.

Basically a 13-year-old girl cut off a toddlers hair at McDonalds, so the judge told the kids mum that he/she would reduce the sentence if the teen's ponytail was also cut off in court.

She was accompanied by an 11-year-old friend who also had the same punishment, but could have it cut in a salon.

Neither girl had their head SHAVED, it was just cut up to the jaw IIRC.

    Thoughts?

Punishment fits the crime. It's not cruel, although it is unusual, so I'd say justice was served.

      From the article:

Bruno added, "I guess I should have went into the courtroom knowing my rights because I felt very intimidated. An eye for an eye, that's not how you teach kids right from wrong."

Kaytlen also admitted to charges in another case rising from eight months of phone calls she made to a Colorado teen that included threats of rape and mutilation.
The fact that the court is having to teach the child right from wrong because it isn't readily apparent the mother has done so doesn't concern her? Ok...
Do not lead, for I may not follow. Do not follow, for I may not lead. Just go over there somewhere.

My guess is one of two things:

        1) the parents weren't there when the incident occurred, so believe that everyone is "against them" and that their children are innocent. (I'm referring to both parents)

        2) In her eyes, it's seen as "cruel and unusual punishment".

Well, they did have the choice to refuse. It's not as though the judge said that this was an unavoidable punishment - the main sentence was reduced in exchange for consenting to the haircut.

I'm not 100% sure how the system works overseas, but if she was doing community detention, chances are that mummy wanted pweshus to not have a criminal record.

In the US, Criminal records for minors are mostly irrelevant - they're sealed and (mostly) inaccessible once they reach majority. They get a clean slate, wiped blank, on their 18th birthday.

I read another article, and I think this girl needs series help. She admits to calling and texting an older girl threatening to rape and mutilate her.

Bruno opted for the haircut but later expressed her anger over the judgment and said that she had filed an official complaint against the judge.

"She definitely needed to be punished for what had happened," she told the Deseret News. "But I never dreamt it would be that much of a punishment."

Call me crazy, but I thought hair grew back. Why is the loss of her hair more of a pain than 150 hours in detention?

Bruno added, "I guess I should have went into the courtroom knowing my rights because I felt very intimidated. An eye for an eye, that's not how you teach kids right from wrong."

What the fuck else would you like to happen? A slap on the wrist and a fond farewell?

Kaytlen also admitted to charges in another case rising from eight months of phone calls she made to a Colorado teen that included threats of rape and mutilation.

So, the girl not only planned to, and subsequently followed through with, chopping off a 3 year old's hair (a girl she had apparently just met), but she's also in trouble over harassing phone calls that included threats of rape and mutilation? This girl should have been thrown in the clink, if only to keep her from the general public for awhile.

It was in my article. And I agree, she does need help.

I think the real question is why the hell you'd even do something so stupid in the first place?

What it done out of malice or just for the hell of it?

i think malice, since they actually had to leave the mcd's to buy sissors and come back to do it, since the mcd's wouldnt lend them a pair.

This is what happens when you let presidential candidates be role models
"My in-laws are country people and at night you can hear their distinctive howl."

I think the punishment fits the crime. I had really long hair as a kid and always had compliments on it (despite my hair being a pain in the ass to take care of....it's thick and curly). I was in 4th grade at the time and there was this one girl who was jealous of my hair and she was also known for being a bully...she was big for her age and was in the 5th grade (but was held back a couple of times due to failing grades). So one day she tried to pressure one of the other kids on the bus to bring a pair of scissors and cut my hair from behind my back. I found out because that same kid the bully tried pressuring to do the deed told me and he decided against it.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people...
