  • Sex Scandal Contains Sexism? Who would have guessed!

**I don't think this has made it into my local news yet, so I can't post any article links. Please remember that this story comes from word of mouth, and may not be 100% true.**

A local state attorney was caught getting a blowjob from his secretary in the courthouse parking garage. From what I've heard, two police officers discovered them mid-way through the act, so they were b-u-s-t-e-d, busted.

According to rumors from the courthouse, the secretary and the attorney were called in to "the office" yesterday. The male attorney was allowed to resign (and therefore keep his benefits), while the female secretary was flat-out fired (losing her pension and benefits in the process).

Is it just me, or does this scream sexism? Why is the woman being stripped of her benefits, while the man gets to keep his? In my opinion, they both should have been fired. The attorney is just as responsible for the act as the secretary.

Thats generally how it seems to go when two people get in trouble. The important higher up gets to bow out gracefully while the other person gets the shafy.

Sorry, but why is this an issue at all? Since when is it illegal to give or recieve blowjobs (outside of Iran, at least), and why is this of any concern to their employer?

If anything, the attorney is MORE responsible, as he has a higher degree of authority in the law firm, and therefore a higher degree of culpability. More responsible, because he, as the greater authority, has a greater ability to engage in sexual harrassment, or be accused of such. Even if their relationship was 100% consensual, he could still get the firm sued for harrassment at this point.

Apparently it was on company time (so he was getting blown while he was on the clock). It was also in a public place, which is a no-no pretty much everywhere.

A valid point, if they would also get fired instantly for surfing the web or having lunch on company time for a similar amount of time. And I strongly doubt that.

In the US maybe. And still should not be of any concern to their employer.

If I ran a law firm and two of my employees were caught committing having oral sex in public which is a crime, I'd be very concerned. Their job is to work with the law and anyone who so willingly breaks it like that doesn't deserve to work there.

Maybe they're worried about being sued by a lawyer, and not bothered by being sued by a secretary?

It's illegal in pretty much any country. As to being the business of the employer, they were in the courthouse carpark, where there's a reasonable chance of them being recognised as people from the law firm, thereby throwing the law firm into disrepute, which is a fireable offence in almost any contract.

Giving/receiving a blow job is legal. Public sex is not. And while I'm not sure what "state attorney" means in the OP, that's generally a government position. Anyway, though, it makes sense to expect attorneys to know the law and to uphold it. That doesn't mean firing them over something like a single parking ticket, but public sex can lead to very serious charges, one penalty of which can be getting listed on that life-ruining list whose name has slipped my mind.

Not in my country, for example. Cops would most likely tell them to stop what they're doing, and then go away, but unless someone outright sues them, there's no legal consequences. Worst case - you get a fine, if it's clear you did it on purpose to offend others. And i strongly doubt our neighbours handle this that much differently.
The US ist probably the least relaxed country in the western world when it comes to "public indecency".

Anyway. As for the original question: I'm not sure if this is really sexism. They don't have the same job in this company. If the roles were reversed - male secretary, female lawyer - i don't think this would have gone any other way.

It is actually illegal in Germany, although I would hazard a guess it's not usually prosecuted.

I think that it should be that they both lose their benefits and everything.
