The neighbor looks like some cranky old bitch. Should be an easy case. The mom suffered and the neighbor falsely reported a crime that caused it.

As for the police, they arrested her without any real evidence. I always thought you had to have some kind of evidence in order to get a warrant for someone's arrest.

Bonus points for the fact that the neighbour, in an effort to make the officer believe that the children were in danger, claimed to have accidentally struck one of then with her car.

Of course, the cop didn't follow up, get medical checks for the child, or even question the neighbour further. Just arrested the mother for child endangerment.

Sorry, but if someone claims to have hit a child with a car, I'd expect a cop to at least insist the child be checked by a doctor.

A while back someone posted about a 10 year old walking to scocer practice 4 blocks away from home who was stopped by a cop. The childs parent was threatened with child endagerment charges.

I during the summer, like a LOT of the commentors, left the house to play with friends, ride bikes, go to the local park until lunch, dinner and darkness. as longa s my Mom and/or Dad knew who we were with and generally speaking what we were doing NO FREAKING problem.

Heck we even used to frequently bike ride to a county park 5 or 6 (maybe 7) miles away FOR THE WHOLE DAY at that.

So wait. She tells the cops she hit someone with her car...and they just let that go? Clearly she shouldn't be driving because she's unable to do so correctly.

And it's not just children who think that way. When it comes to police related abuse, I know a lot of people (online and offline) who excuse it and look for something the victim did wrong. I believe it's the "just world" fallacy. It's one that drives me mad.

The article that was linked doesn't explain an awful lot. In my experience of dealing with neighbour disputes there are 3 ways to tell a tale, each side has their opinion on how it happened then somewhere in the middle is the truth. This article is so one-sided it's hard to see what the full story is.

Frankly, these articles are sorely lacking in information and one of them is incredibly biased. There's a lot of details missing here, which makes it all the more infuriating because of how ridiculous this entire situation is.

I want to know why the neighbor is being sued. Does the neighbor normally make nuisance calls? Does she harass others in the neighborhood and did she really say she hit one of the kids? Because I can see someone saying "Those kids are riding their scooters in the street, what if I hit them?" (as in, how easy would it be to not see them and hit them?). The one article I saw which said she claimed to hit a kid is so completely biased it isn't funny.

Honestly, unless the neighbor is a jerk who likes to pick on and harass others, I don't like how she's getting sued. All that does is mean the next time someone see's another beating the shit out of their kid, they'll think twice before calling the authorities. Wouldn't want to get sued.

Well, apparently she called in a false report that ended up getting the mom arrested and forced her in jail overnight. I'd sue the shit out of someone if they did that to me.

But did she? Wouldn't you have to show that neighbor knew it was false? That's just it, we don't have much detail. All I know is this entire situation is ridiculous. And yeah, I'd be mighty pissed too.
