  • Oh for fuck's sake.

    http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/n...-1226479488058

So we finally have a Barbie doll that isn't marketed as being sexy. (Katniss from The Hunger Games). And while she's being marketed as someone who's not dressed up like a stripper, she's coming under fire for "sending the wrong message to girls".

    Make up your mind!

I'm more astounded that the doll merchandise has only just started coming out.

Meanwhile, one aisle over, it's apparently perfectly fine to buy a remote controlled Killdozer for your 6 year old boy. But a bow and arrow for a little girl? My God, man! What are you doing? Her vagina will grow teeth!

I don't understand the "make up your mind" in the OP. How is it inconsistent to be against both this and the usual type of Barbie doll? It seems to me like saying "Wait, first you tell me you don't like country music, but now you say you don't like hip hop either. Make up your mind!"

I think he she is referring to the fact that there are many toys targeted to boys that involve violence and no one cares, but they make a girl doll targeted for girls that involve violence and its a problem.

God forbid we have any girl toys that dont promote having a sugar daddy or putting them back into the kitchen.

                  I'm female but thats ok.

And that was my point. Also the fact that we finally have a character who isn't dressed up like a stripper and happens to be a strong female, both literally and figuratively, who is coming under fire. What do they want....florence nightingale Barbie?

Well if they get the Katniss barbie, they may read the books and see how one woman brought down an entire system of government, while suffering personal loss, and sacrificing herself, and her well-being for someone she loved.

Yeah, it does seem rather hypocritical to complain about a Katniss doll, while two aisles over, you can have your pick of countless action figures aimed at boys, armed with all manner of heavy weaponry. You can buy play sets filled with fake weaponry for boys, but I'm guessing if they released a toy bow and arrows with a picture of a girl on the package, all hell would break loose.

And yes, I want one of those Katniss dolls. I'll put her on the shelf next to my Queen Amidala, or next to my Sideshow Collectibles Jedi dolls.

That's not really a toy though, that's a weapon, even if it's just used for competition. The only one I've ever seen is this one for the movie Brave:

                            http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...uctId=12465596

And that just came out this year.

Weird; when I was a kid, I had a veritable collection of toy guns and no-one batted an eyelid. O_o
