Thank you... it would be very easy for me to say that I can't find a job because I wear a ring with rainbow (fake) gems in them... or I can recognize that there is ungodly high unemployment for recent college grads because even for entry level positions paying barely enough to make student loan payments there will be 4 or 5 people with 5 years of experience applying for the position because times are desperate and so are they and no employer in their right mind is going to pick the inexperienced person who they have to train when they can get someone who already knows the industry inside and out for the same salary.

Again (and again and again until someone deigns to answer): where do you get this from? Where, in this thread, does the persistent notion that they are thinking or claiming that this ABSOLUTELY IS the reason, rather than that it's what seems most likely come from?

Simply by observing their reaction. They are demonstrating as a direct result of the incident, which indicates to me that they've concluded the motive and intention behind the attack.

It's no different than, say, if a police officer used excessive force on someone of a certain minority ethnicity and the community made the victim a posterboy for racism by the police without finding out all the facts, even if that might not have been the case at all.

People should certainly demonstrate against injustice against others based on prejudice and bigotry, but I have a problem when they demonstrate and point to a specific event that they don't even know was due to that prejudice or bigotry.

A protest against homophobia as a result of someone placing shit in their microwave. If that's not a blatantly obvious case of them directly blaming homophobes, then I don't know what is.

You don't really get a pass on, "I was drunk when I did it, so it doesn't count. That wasn't really me."
Hence the old cliche "A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts". Don't believe that for a minute - how many sober men go around thinking "But offissher, I only had two beersh"?
