What I don't get is that... her husband is a DOCTOR if she needs the antibiotics when her own children get sick not only does she have easy access to them, she also has super easy access to a guy educated in the field that can tell her "No, you don't use antibiotics for a freaking COLD." You also don't use hardcore antibiotics for a little infection either.

Overkill antibiotics is just as bad as using antibiotics when you don't need them at all. Especially since hardcore antibiotics (like the ones used for lyme disease) have a much higher risk of the side effects (like vertigo and feeling like you're about to puke your insides into becoming your outsides.)

I hope Uncle Doc tore into his idiot wife, but GOOD for that! Essentially stealing meds from somebody who needs them right NOW, in case her kids might need them at some undetermined future date- that's the kind of parental entitlement that makes me see red.

Amanita -- I have no idea if he spoke to her about it (he's a really nice guy, genuinely, but sometimes TOO nice, ya know?) -- but I got the impression that it blew over as "Dad got the meds in time one way or the other so it's all cool". I honestly don't know if Auntie consulted with him on meds or not, but for her kids' sake, I hope so. Overexposure to such things, especially antibiotics, could easily cause them to build up an immunity, could it not?

        Back OT ^_^

I mentioned this thread to my roomie, who has MS. She said that this exact same problem with the scripts being "filled"/charged to insurance happened to her recently at CVS, and she ended up having to go back and forth with her doc's office and insurance company for hours to get them to authorize an emergency mini-refill at another pharmacy in order to get her pills; she has since transferred all of her scripts over to the new place completely, and won't go anywhere near a CVS if she can help it.

This is why I am SO glad that prescriptions are not tied to a particular pharmacy down here...I have been known to get refills at other pharmacies, especially if I couldn't get it at the one I'd had it filled at previously. (when you go and get a refill, they give you a sheet which shows how many have already been dispensed, where they were dispensed previously and who the treating physician is/was)
