  • Anonymous against bullies

In light of the tragedy of Amanda Todd, awareness seems to be somewhat heightened against cyber bullying, at least. Recently I saw this article in my Facebook feed,

Anonymous Vs. Suicide Trolls on Twitter

(Apologies, I couldn't find another article to link, short on time, just on my lunch break at work)

In this case, the bullies were given a dose of their own medicine. While Anonymous didn't incite them to kill themselves, they went after the trolls. In the end, another tragedy was avoided.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, hooray, something's being done. On the other...it's because of a tragedy that's already occurred. I have to say, Anonymous stepped up, which is pretty neat, I guess.

I'm mostly posting this, asking for thoughts? There have been a slew of debates popping up about how bullied teens need to get over it, and toughen up, but society is so different nowadays. I don't know. I'm babbling. Need more tea.

    Thoughts??

As long as they get the right target, fine.

One of the main problems with unregulated vigilantes is that there's no accountability if they make a mistake.

I have to admit, Anonymous intrigues me. I'd like to learn more about them. I think they did good in this case, but their power can easily be abused.

Anonymous does good a lot more than people think. They caught the woman who dumped a cat in a wheelybin, and now they're stopping cyber bullies.

Their movements against scientology were very interesting.

That is essentially what got them noticed because they were the ones effective at countering the cult's (yes, I still call them a cult) activities due to their anonymity. The problem is that due to this, a number of black hat hacking groups latched on to the name and started using the label to cause all sorts of problems.

They're likened to modern day Robin Hoods. They essentially commit crimes in the name of the betterment of other people. They used to do it just "for the LULZ," but have since moved on to attacking VISA and Master Card for blocking WikiLeaks, attacking these particular cyber-bullies, finding and bringing animal abusers to justice, as well as catching internet pedophiles. It's rumored they also had a hand in keeping the various Occupy movements civil.

Government agencies around the world have been cracking down on them, yet they continue to fight back. It's an amusing and intriguing story to follow.

Well there's no real organization to them, which is why they keep coming back like cockroaches.

I have mixed feelings about Anonymous. I can foresee a day when their hats get too big for their heads and they do real damage to innocent people.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.
