  • Father finds porn on his son's Christmas 3DS

    http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nbc-news/50304667/#50304667

Fail on both sides I think. Game Stop didn't reformat the system as was their policy, and father should have double checked, and could have quietly gotten it resolved without bringing too much attention to the issue.

I wasnt able to watch the video on the idevice I'm using, but the headline is a bit much. "Family in Tears"? Really? I'd be irritated, annoyed, maybe angry, but in tears? No.things on my list that I cry about do not include porn found on a DS.

There are certain genres of porn that might lead one to tears... "Tubgirl" porn for instance.

GameStop seems to not be resetting systems like they're supposed to. My 3DS is secondhand, and it still had the original owner's pics (no pr0n, though) and Mii settings. It took me all of five minutes to figure out how to reset it to factory settings. Several used games I've gotten lately still have files saved on them. I ordered a PSP with my Christmas money, so it should be interesting to see if it's been reset or not.

Point being, especially if you're buying secondhand or refurbished units, check them before you give them to your kids. If you don't know how, find someone who does, or take the unit back and see if you can get an exchange.

Link for the haters of videos such as I.

Pathetic that Game Stop didn't reset it. It doesn't take much effort and that's super freaking lazy not to do it.

They said the five year old is now traumatized. Kid probably has no freaking clue as to what he saw. Gross exaggeration looking for sympathy.

actually, I can see the 5-year old being traumatized, because the father likely took the 3DS while he checked for anything else that wasn't supposed to be on there( which is probably a good idea after you've already found porn on it...). if the kid didn't understand why...

but yeah, gamestop should have reset it; the father should have checked it. Hell, whoever traded the thing into Gamestop (or GAME, since they are owned by the same company) really should have reset it before trading it in.

Traumatized my ass, the only reason the kid would be traumatized is because of the parents over reaction to the whole thing, I remember er seeing porn at that age, I didn't freak out and neither did my parents

The kid was probably more distraught at having such a great toy taken away from him after getting it for Christmas.

There was a live interview with the father on local news and he said straight out that the younger son who the system was bought for didn't see the actual porn, just the older son. While Game Stop should have been more on the ball, the father is over reacting and should have double checked the device before giving it to the kids.

Some of the blame (in my eyes most of it) goes to the former owner. It's not that hard to factory reset the system. You should be doing that for anything you are reselling. It protects your private (and perverted) information, and stops shit like this from happening.

Most of the blame lies on the reseller, aka Gamestop.

Not only do they have the reputation on the line, but they should also have the expertise and a standard policy of resetting all used machines. They should have taken care of it regardless of whether anything was on it or not.

My only question while reading this is who the hell watches porn on a 3DS?

It could even be that the previous owner put it on there to be found.

Why wouldn't the previous owner reset the system? I have a 3DS, and it takes like two minutes to reset the system and erase the SD card.

The previous owner may not have known, may not have cared, and/or may not have been the one that actually sold it.

Considering all of the possible variables, it behooves Gamestop to be very strict as regards reset policies.

But was it porn porn or *3D* porn taken with the 3DS's vid cam? That could be somewhat traumatizing if the 3D slider was at max ;p
