because it was in Saudi Arabia, he paid a fine. yup that's it. Women are considered minors, and their closest male relative is their "guardian", and they can do whatever they see fit with them. In this case it's claimed he doubted her virginity(at 5 years old), so he proceeded to rape and beat her to death, and then pay a fine of $50,000.

A subject that deserves attention, yet has very little in the way of points to argue, and so is likely to get a short thread as if nobody cared.
Seems worth a shot to point out that many people would rather spend time in prison than pay $50,000."My in-laws are country people and at night you can hear their distinctive howl."

Saudi Arabia is always presented as an oil rich nation where everyone visiting a forign country is a sheik (sp) so $50k might be nothing to the perp.
That whole every woman is considered a minor, so a grandmother who never had sons yet had one grandson, he being the only male blood relative makes a 3 year old her legal gardian?
Or would that fall to one of her son in laws.
That said, does this apply to families of migrant workers? I could see a massive backlash if this was a european child and a local (although this would indeed be different circumstances to the original case) or the wife of an oil exec or plant worker.
Now I did say in another thread that what is illigal where you live might be fine where you go on holiday to, but if the courts deem anything like this happening to a migrant family legal, then everyone working there should get the fuck out asap.
edit:
probabaly would only work if it was the family doing it not a 3rd party and I don't think many westerners are queueing up to go there to legaly abuse their families.Last edited by Ginger Tea; 02-05-2013, 11:14 AM.

Oh, I'm sure if he didn't have the money to play the blood price (which was half the usual, because female, so worth less) they'd have gone ahead and put him to death.

However due to the outrage, the Saudi Royal family has stepped in and even though the case was closed, he is being re-sentanced in the royal court, he still has to pay his ex-wife the "fine", but he will also serve prison time.
Followup story
One source told the newspaper, “The royal court is now looking at the case. He [Al-Ghamdi] will stay in prison for a long time.”

At least they're doing something..I read the article, that poor kid was adorable! Too bad her father is a shitstain on the underpants of humanity. I hope that other inmates do to him what he did to his poor daughter, it would serve him right!

To say that a rapist should be raped is to say that rape is a legitimate act of revenge and justice. It is to establish a set of circumstances under which rape is acceptable.
