The alleged "Fake Geek Girl" trend

It's used to put down women and girls more than it's ever used to address an actual phenomenon- paid booth babes aside, how many of these 'fakers' actually have zero interest? Just because someone prefers the costume aspect of cons over, say, discussing continuity doesn't mean they are 'fake'.

I grew up only liking fighting games (Tekken, Street fighter)

I only just started loving Doctor Who in late summer 2013 (Seriously. Why did I not start earlier?!)

I didn't like Harry Potter until the 4th book came out, and I read the 3rd first (So sue me)

I only like certain old anime (like Rurouni Kenshin)

I rarely play video games that I actually finish. (I don't have my own system and my attention span sucks)

I started to like Marvel because of their movies first (/shrug)

Even though I love the batman movies, cartoon shows, etc...I didn't like the comics. Only one I like is the Killing Joke

I supposedly only like Japan for the anime (Biggest bs....)

These are some of the reasons I am a fake geek girl.

I keep asking myself this. I started watching at the same time because Sherlock(Moffat). I don't think I believed it could possibly be as good as people were saying it was.

For the longest time I was "Fuck Anime" outside of American/European dubs of shows or shows animated by Japanese studios but written in the west shows growing up (we didn't have Gundam Battle Tech and the likes) Bell and Sebastian, Mysterious cities of Gold and Around the world in 80 days to name a few (though Bell is only vaguely remembered) what Anime I saw that was 'true' anime started with Akira and the early launch titles of Manga Entertainment in the UK, but I was done when it turned quite quickly into shovel ware I had a low income and I just wasn't willing to waste money on dross and there was no sure fire way of knowing what was or wasn't utter shite.

so for most of the 90's and all of the 00's I was animation free aside from picking up box sets of American cartoons, but as far as Japan went, it could swivel on it's own tentacle.

Now I can only go as far as to say "I don't mind it" I cant say I like it or love it as it would be a lie and I might be expected to have seen FMA and a few others as "you cant say you like it if you haven't watched it" I got the whole Robotech box set and after a few episodes wondered what the fuss was all about, but then I remembered I was watching it for the first time as an adult not a child, but by the end of the last disc I knew I would never get that time back and it would never be as great as if I saw it for the first time around the time transformers was out, which afaik is when it was on American TV if not sooner.

I think Anime is probably the only 'geek' culture (outside of CCG's and RPG's which I do not play) where I would feel uncomfortable expressing a like as it still comes across as your not a true fan if you have not watched X Y or Z.

People rave about Studio Gibley and I cant even remember how to say or spell its name, so take from that what you will and have no idea if I have ever seen one of theirs, though I think spirited away is one of em.

I would score less in a Geek test than most of you I can say with certainty.

I watched the stuff that was put on Cartoon Network. DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Zoids, etc.

Thats about as much anime I can get into.

As I said earlier, I don't do much comics. Neil Gaiman is the only one to really grasp my attention other than Jim Davis with Garfield.

erm, I rebuilt my first engine(under direction from my stepfather), had LONG GREASE-FREE nails the entire time I was an assistant manager at a "quick-lube" franchise(grease goes on the car, I wore gloves to give me a better grip(arthritis), I was the only person at my location trained to do ALL the preventative maintenance services(everyone else kept failing the tests), I know fully well how to fix cars, and read a Haynes Manual, I know fuck all about what was typed up there.

I was using some extreme stereotypes, and GM and Mopar enthusiasts (regardless of gender) would have no reason to know the differences between a 351W and a 351C. Both were Ford V-8 engines displacing (surprisingly enough) 351 cubic inches. The "Windsor" was a "grocery getter", while the "Cleveland" was more performance-oriented. Holley is a brand of carburetor, as was the Rochester Quadrajet. From what you've posted, you're clearly a Wrench Wench and not a Hood Ornament Hottie (both terms taken from TVTropes).
