This story was really startling to me because I often take (and did when he was a baby) my son on walks around the neighborhood and nearby shopping district. I rarely take my wallet or any money unless we're stopping at the grocery for something small. Often all I have are my water bottle and keys. Never in my nightmares would I imagine someone trying to mug me of money I didn't have, and then murdering my child because of it.

They did catch the kids who did this.

One is 17 and being charged as an adult. It's Florida: he'll get the death penalty. He's the one who actually pulled the trigger. Shot the baby right between the eyes.

The other is 14, and being charged as a juvenile.

I was just getting to a point where I opposed the death penalty. But if ever a case deserved it, this one does.

I know they arrested two people. But one had an alibi (his aunt said that he was at home with her at the time)

I'm really hoping that they have arrested the right people. If not it means that the real killer is still out there and two kids are going to have their lives ruined.

I have read that there are great suspicions on the mother and her story and from other boards, the story doesn't sit right with a lot of people and is not entirely believable. What does everyone here think?

It wouldn't surprise me one way other the other. People have been known to do extremely stupid things like this.

It's the most believable of all the scenarios, IMO. The fact is the fact: somebody shot a baby in the face. That, alone, is hard to believe, yet there's no doubt that happened. I don't see how the mother doing it is any more or less believable than some robbers doing it.

Those who are making baseless claims that the mother is a liar without any evidence other than, "It's hard to believe" as if an alternate story that a mother did this to her own child, shot herself in the leg, and then made up a story that two robbers did it is somehow more believable, should wait until more to the story comes out.

I don't doubt the story; given the undeniable facts, no other explanation is even close to as likely. But (as others have said) I sure hope they arrested the right people. Anybody they bring to trial is going to get convicted and have the book thrown at them.

The thing not sitting right with me is in one of her accounts, she only says "a boy approached me." Not 2 boys. She also goes on to give a very detailed account of everything that happened. Too much detail is usually a sign of fabrication.
