  • Rehab program operating near our school? OH NOEZ!!!!

    http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/s...-1226608633825

So a chemist is moving from one place to another. They also run a methadone treatment program (as do a number of chemists across Adelaide) which is fully enclosed and private: the general public cannot tell who is there for a contraceptive prescription and who's there to clean up their act. They also don't publicly advertise that they run said program.

However, an all-boys private school has decided that apparently the program being there is going to cause problems. This is despite the fact that the school is incredibly secure (and the principal has admitted that as such). He's more concerned about parent reactions.

To me that just screams "We don't want those common folk around here, get them out of here!"

There's one of those half a mile from here, with a sign and everything, and it hasn't caused any trouble at al.

      NIMBY strikes again.
--- I want the republicans out of my bedroom, the democrats out of my wallet, and both out of my first and second amendment rights. Whether you are part of the anal-retentive overly politically-correct left, or the bible-thumping bellowing right, get out of the thought control business --- Alan Nathan

Yep. Luckily the attitude of the commenters seems to be the same (for once!).

My comment suggested that had it been near a public school (primary or secondary), nobody would've cared. If anything, they would've maybe even made derogatory remarks about it.

It was near a public school, it's been opposite Adelaide high for years.

Point proven. Nobody cared that it was near Adelaide High.

Now all of a sudden, it's out near a private school and the reactions are mostly "THINK OF THE CHILDRENZ!"

Ignoring the fact that said public school runs two specialised programs:

-A languages program (the kids in that program learn 2 languages up to Year 10 plus English)
-A hearing impaired program (they are one of 3 high schools in the state to focus on this)
