It's the one thing I like about the place I work at. For the past month, I've been working as a waiter in a restaurant in an upscale senior living facility. To avoid anyone being able to say we are taking advantage of the seniors there, we cannot accept ANY money or gifts from the residents. That includes tips. So since we don't get tips, they can't pay us less than minimum wage. In fact, we get paid a few bucks over minimum wage. The waitstaff (besides me) are all young so none of them work full time. They don't get benefits. But the cooks and such do work full time and get benefits. I'll be working in the cafe when it opens full time so I'll get benefits. It's nice to work at a place that treats its employees well.

The restaurant industry as a whole is basically just a mass exploitation of its workers.

Sure. People don't want to pay the real cost of their food. They want to think they are getting a bargain by getting twice as much food as they can possibly eat in one sitting.

If people really paid what it costs for a decent meal, people would eat out far less often.

And yes, this is why so many restaurants go out of business.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.
