So somehow Godwinning an ANNE FRANK thread is impressive.
I did think that was an 'official' corollary to Godwin's Law.

You'd think Bieber would keep his mouth shut a bit and let this settle down. But nah, let's go with this route.

Because if there's anything that can help smooth over an Anne Frank controversy, its the vague implication you would totally have sex with her.

Vague doesn't really cover the tenuous link between his visit and that image.

"I hope Anne Frank would have been a Belieber" few days later "Here's me naked in bed with a Belieber". You can't tell me that's a good idea ;p. The boy seriously needs better handlers.

I... Maybe if you're TRYING to make it a controversy, I can see how it's controversial, but SERIOUSLY?

Why are so many people out to get the guy, I mean, all he does is make shitty music.

There are millions of people who specifically claim the title of Belieber (he has over 9 million followers on Twitter, and over 33 million likes on Facebook). So, yes, you've got to be grasping to make that specific connection.

That doesn't mean Tweeting the pic was a good idea or that he doesn't need better handling. But those have noting to do with the fact that the implication you brought up is a far reach linked only by dubious timing.

There's enough legitimate things to rag on the guy about that you don't have to stitch otherwise unrelated incidents together to manufacture more.

the drawing was stupid, but unconnected to his idiotic comment in the book.

Also: That article doesn't pass the smell test.

There's no date, there's no screenshot of the alleged tweet, and there's no such image in his tweet history.

He does a lot more than that. That's why people are on his case lately. He's acted like a raging douche bag for months now. >.>

I don't need to "manufacture" anything. All I did was point out that the juxtaposition of these two events is bad form. I even used the word "vague". So I have no idea what you're on about. This is a pretty damn simple line of thought:

I hope x is y. I would totally do z to y. Regardless of whether he wants to do z to x, there is a logical possibility of a link. One he should have avoided making given his PR lately.

Hell, Joss Whedon took a shot at him at the MTV movie awards. It's if you've been around the block, you've seen "him" before multiple times. The compelling "teenage boy" act has been around since the 60's. The only thing that's changed is performers have more direct access to the fans. For those of us who remember Corey Haim, it just becomes silly to see that level of influence. It might be more accurate to say that many find the whole situation absurd.

And that's the thing, if people find someone's popularity absurd they're more apt to take shots. See: Dane Cook.

As an aside: The rep for the museum doesn't think he deserves the negativity.

"He's a 19-year-old boy taking the effort to come and see the museum," the rep told Reuters. "And we'd like to point that out, and I think it's quite innocent what he put down."
As for the pic, it was on Instagram, not Twitter (is it really that difficult for news sources to get that right?) and part of a trio of images he put up at that time. I found the original image at Deviant Art, which is apparently an illustration based on some romantic fic.

The Anne Frank house being polite about it does not preclude the rest of the world from being abe to have an opinion on the matter though.

Nice Phraseology, there. They're just being polite about it. They couldn't possibly actually think that the hubbub over the whole thing is silly, or anything like that.

I'm going to agree that they think this whole controversy is silly.
I have no doubt that many celebrities have put down something to the effect of "I would be honored if she had been my fan" and no one has lost their shit over it yet... hell, probably on a daily basis someone writes something along the lines of "I would have loved for her to be my friend" and no one cares. But since he used the juvenile phrasing about being a belieber the world loses its shit. Dear God, did I just paraphrase the Joker again?

I think if there's anyone who would be allowed to make a judgement on whether or not it's disrespectful to Anne Frank, it would be someone who actually knew her. For example, her friend Eva, who said "She probably would have been a fan. Why not? He’s a young man and she was a young girl, and she liked film stars and music."

Although that might be 'being polite' about it, too.
