  • Fans send death threats on Twitter

For all those who don't know who 1 Direction are, I envy you. Seriously, they're a boy band who got together as a result of the X Factor and they make crappy music, much like Justin Beiber. But in this case, it's their cretinous fans who are the problem, with the group not doing a thing to stop it.

Basically, the moment that a member of the group gets a girlf, dares to party with a fan, or anything, these idiots send out death threats on Twitter. Not to the group, but to the hapless female. What annoys me is that 1 Direction are doing nothing whatsoever about it when they ought to tell these fans off. Who knows what it might lead to; someone might even be crazy enough to carry out their threat.

Pretty stupid. Will blow up in their faces when someone gets hurt.

But seriously, what kind of a moron gets that worked up over a band?
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

That's not really fair, seeing as how their main fanbase is preteen girls. I remember being twelve and being head-over-heels, heart-poundingly in love with Darren Hayes, the lead singer of Savage Garden, because his music sounded like it was made for me. All the songs he sang were about me, or to me, and we had this ultra-special connection that I had never felt with any other person before. It's an intoxicating addiction, and when you're that young, your logic skills are lacking.

I'm definitely not trying to justify the death threats, they're beyond reproach, but I know what it feels like to get swept up in such a cloud of fandom that you lose focus on what's factual.

Selena Gomez got tons of death threats when it was announced she was dating Justin Bieber.

Yea, this kind of thing generally manifests for both sexes over different things. I'm not sure people really grasp the severity of what a "death threat is" until they're older. When people are pre-teens, often "I scared them" is sufficient cause for using one. And often it has two illogical components, "I have made you fear me so you'll stop" and "you can't hold me to this because I'm too young and you shouldn't take me seriously because I was mad."

Still, maybe there should be a "So You're Crushing On A Boy Band" self help book. Throw in some historical and current boy band glam shots. Add some blurbs from Bieber, One Direction, Et. Al. Sprinkle in a dash of "this is not ok" where appropriate in case someone doesn't realize it yet. And yes, some people just dont realize it yet.

It could be worse. Bieber's fans were going after Anne Frank thinking she was some girl he was seeing in Europe. >.>

While I don't doubt that some of his fans were that stupid, I'd like some corroboration on that last statement.

It started as an Onion article, but it did spread to twitter, with bieber fans asking who Anne Frank was, why he was visiting her, etc. Seen some screenshots via tumblr.

I get that a lot of these girls don't understand why sending death threats is bad, but the group ought to at least put out a statement about it; kinda something like, "We don't agree with anyone doing this. If we see you posting this stuff, we will report you to Twitter and you'll be banned." But, they've said nothing. Which is why I think they're morons, them and their stupid fangirls.

Ok. The fact that some of these children are threatening a puppy is just asinine.

Wow. I actually got hit by the generation gap.

Because I know for a fact I wasn't this stupid when I was 12 or 13. I didn't hit the crazy phase until I was 15, and that pretty much just consisted of thinking my mother was a raging bitch (when in actuality I was the raging bitch). Then I turned 16 and I was done.

The best part is a lot of the tweets happened the day BEFORE the Onion got an article up. So the Onion inadvertently wrote real news by accident.

I know what you mean, I remember being stupid sure, but not THIS stupid. I don't remember having any friends or classmates stupid enough to utter death threats, etc either.

Hell, when I was 12-13, I was reading Anne Frank's diary because it's required reading in school.

Yeah. I was remarkably mature for a 12-13 year old. I read Animal Farm out of boredom.

Still, different people mature at different rates.

Animal Farm is required reading up here too >.> Actually, a lot of George Orwell was come to think of it.

Still, no one was THAT stupid in my school, and its not like we didn't have some damn stupid people. Hell, one guy a grade higher than me had the nickname "Rock Eater". Which he had earned after getting particularly stoned weekend.
