  • One more teacher fired...

This time from a PUBLIC school.

The teacher had a side modeling job. apparently the "school" admin or district found out and the principle immediately fired her. This was not all the bad since she was going to quit at the end of the school year but still.... the question remains WTF???????

The photos posted in the article are not really that bad.

on the funny side: WHY OH WHY did I not have teachers like this in HS???
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

Really? Dumb. I had a teacher that was a Chargers Girl when I was in high school. Except she was a B-otch, so that was lame.

      A month? A month?

They couldn't put up with a teacher that had been there for 8 months already to finish out the school year for one last month?

Hell, they could have totally had a chat with her, let her know that they couldn't renew her contract for the summer/next year (wink wink nudge nudge) and let the parents know that she was finishing out the year so as not to confuse the students.

But dumping her a month before the end of session over the fact that some of her photos are *gasp* topless is just lame.

I don't see any reason they should let her go at all.

If she's in the union, which she most likely is, they should fight tooth and nail for her regardless if she had planned to resign. Especially if she was doing it to go to grad school.

As for hot teachers, I had 2 in my high school. One was the orchestra teacher and every time she talked about a "G-String," my mind went straight to the gutter.

If her contract had what's called a "Morality Clause", they can fire her for violating it. I'm not saying it's right, but it could be what happened. My mother has one in her contract with her school, which kept her from being photographed with some friends of hers, who happen to be burlesque dancers after the New Century Follies show.

I'd have thought shed have an advantage keeping kid's attention, if you ask me... seriously, why fire her? let her know it isn't a good idea to pose for any more, and leave it at that.

This happened in Florida, which IIRC is a right to work state.

I'm fairly certain that teachers have contracts, which override the right to work status of the state.

I really fail to see the point of "morality clauses" in PUBLIC school contracts. I can understand private schools to an extent (especially if the school teaches a specific faith or has another need) but why on earth would a PUBLIC school require them??

Depends on what the teacher was doing. Some schools don't have contracts or if they do, they're only short-term ones.

"Right to Work" is different from "At Will"

                        From the wiki page
A right-to-work law is a statute in the United States that prohibits union security agreements, or agreements between labor unions and employers, that govern the extent to which an established union can require employees' membership, payment of union dues, or fees as a condition of employment, either before or after hiring. "Right-to-work" laws do not, as the short phrase might suggest, aim to provide a general guarantee of employment to people seeking work, but rather are a government regulation of the contractual agreements between employers and labor unions that prevents them from excluding non-union workers,[1] or requiring employees to pay a fee to unions that have negotiated the labor contract all the employees work under.
Florida happens to be both a "Right to Work" State as well as an "At Will" State, but Florida Statute 448.102 has 3 exceptions/protections against "At Will" terminations.

I don't think any of them would apply here though. Her best bet, if she chooses to fight it, would be through the union. Again, assuming she's a member of it.

Does Florida even have a teacher's union?

                          North Carolina does NOT.

Yeah. They have a state wide union and a few smaller, county wide unions.
