Missouri Movie Theater Hires Fake Gunman For 'Iron Man 3' Premiere; Police Respond

    The stupid hurts...

Who in their right mind would think that no one would think anything bad about this?

"There was no incident," Goodrich Capital 8 Theaters Manager Bob Wilkins tells Daily RFT. "This is one guy going into the middle of the lobby and screaming about a gun. He has caused more issues than anyone with a toy gun could.... There was no scenario that could have possibly been misconstrued for dangerous at all except for this one random overreacting guy.... It was a clear, plastic toy gun."
I... Gawd it hurts thinking about this.

    Some people just don't think.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

So, the theater does promotional stunts with a local cosplay group and decided to have them come down and cosplay SHIELD operatives.

Only they didn't bother to warn patrons about the event at all. Brilliant. /s

Seriously, it's all the fault of that idiot who saw a guy in body armor with a gun in a movie theatre and thought he was a guy in body armor with a gun in a movie theatre.

There aren't words for this level of stupid. Never mind the fact the guy still doesn't see anything wrong with it. He's lucky none of his cosplay troupe got shot by patron with a conceal/carry license. >.>

Sorry, I'm not getting why this is a story. A theatre hires a bunch of people to dress up as characters and stand around. I mean, they were dressed as freaking superheroes. What's to warn people about? I imagine that kids would like having their picture taken with Ironman or something. Hell, I'd probably like to have my pic taken with someone dressed as Agent Romanov. Good business idea, IMO.

Some batshit insane fucktard decides to take offense and starts screaming about someone having a toy gun - and suddenly people are saying that these actors could have been shot by someone with a CC permit?

It's not like the cosplayers rushed into a crowded cinema. They're standing around the lobby. I just don't get the level of anger here. Maybe I'm missing something.

I've just read the article, the guy called about was entering the cinema in full cosplay and was by himself and not nick fury or Iron Man as pictured in the link, what the cinema should have done was have them arrive in civvies and get changed in the staff only area then come out as a group so people would know it was a thing, one man walking into a cinema even before dark night with a toy gun is a daft idea, after dark night and everything else that has happened, even less of a good idea.

You can't even use the "well it was obviously a toy cos it was pink" excuse any more as even hello kitty has her own line of real weapons these days.

Also you have (although it may have been fake IDK) one of the Halo launches where someone in full Spartan armour was working in a store, then decided to rob it, if it was a real robbery, none of the staff were willing to chance finding out if his gun was a prop or not.

Perhaps you should take the time to read the article, check out the pictures, or maybe even just read the title of the thread.

There was one man dressed as a obvious superhero. Another man was dressed as Ultimates Nick Fury (which is really easy to miss) and the entire rest of the group is dressed as SHIELD operatives. They look like low-key commandos and they're carrying toy guns, some of which are hard to tell are toys, especially when not held in the open. Plus, it's apparent from the article that they did not arrive a group, and that is part of the problem.

Publicity stunts are all well and good, so long as the audience is in on it. When you keep them in the dark, however, you're going to have misunderstandings, and in rare cases people are going to get hurt.

I didn't say should, I said it might have happened and put this theatre manager in a world of shit. Also, you missed the part where even the police chief said this was a stupid fucking idea on the part of the theatre.

Why don't you understand why having a bunch of apparent gunmen walk into a theatre would be a bad thing after Sandy Hook? -.-

If they had just sent in Ironman and Nick Fury this wouldn't have been a problem at all. This is just some wankers in military gear from a surplus store that they randomly taped a SHIELD logo too. They don't look like SHIELD Operatives. You don't even see many SHIELD Operatives in any sort of tactical gear in the movie.

                        Step 1 buy Stormtrooper costume
Step 2 buy a real gun
                        Step 3 customise gun
Step 4 go to cinema when episode 7 comes out

No one will find it odd to see a stormtrooper at a starwars screening, no one will bat an eye when guns are aimed willy nilly.

I can't speak for Iron Man 3 (which doesn't appear to have much in the way of SHIELD involvement), the tie in is for the greater universe of which it is a part, and there are lots of scenes, particularly in the Avengers, with operatives in gear.

If you're going to have nameless support characters, the only real choice is as SHIELD operatives, because you're not going to show up as part of Iron Man's entourage as enemy troops.

Most the scenes with Operatives are on the bridge, in uniform but without gear. You mainly see them in gear in the opening sequence and when Loki is captured as I recall? Their uniforms are blue with a SHIELD arm patch and full helm, googles and face mask. They look exactly like SWAT team officers but with a SHIELD logo on the arm instead of a a department badge.

But therein lays the problem. Why even have nameless support characters? Why not just have Ironman and Fury, maybe Pepper. SHIELD was never a big part of any of the Ironman movies outside of Fury. Maybe if they had had GOOD costumes it *might* have worked or they at least might have been mistaken for police officers. But they look exactly like a random assortment of military nuts with guns that just slapped a SHIELD logo on somewhere that you'd never see in a movie theatre anyhow.

Bad cosplay, when will it stop hurting us? ;p
