Well, if you don't notice the changes until somebody points it out, how can you make it an issue? How do you even know it's an issue?

That's half the point here. Disney's consumers are starting to become more aware. It's becoming more of a question as to how much this trend of Disney might affect children, given Disney's overall popularity.

Is it a big concern? Probably not, given Disney's history and the fact that most of us here in this forum can probably say we were raised on Disney yet don't recall being affected specifically by their gender role issues. But it does play into a bigger problem. So it becomes a talking point.

Nostalgia Critic did a related piece on it: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/vid...-princess-hate

So what? Not everyone on the planet refreshes Disney's website every day just to keep tabs on the princess design. I remember Pocahontas from the movie Pocahontas and as such would expect her to keep looking like Pocahontas. But I don't have any reason to be stalking Disney's website to make sure they don't change Pocahontas. There may have been some rumbling, I don't know. I would have no reason to suspect she looks different in recent years.

But doing them all in one go like this, and in particular doing such a disservice to Merida, made the public notice and now they have a backlash. People might have noticed the slow change in Pocahontas had her creator come out and said "WTF man?" Heck, maybe they did but Disney muffled them.

Merida however was created by Pixar and Disney obviously has no muffle power over Pixar.

Fun Fact: Roy Disney doesn't think the Disney Princesses should be marketed together. So the Princesses are not allowed to acknowledge each other even when pictured together. There's an actual internal rule forbidding them from making eye contact with each other.

        This amuses me greatly.

            You know you want too.

Try not to gag on the loaded gender role questions.

            Also, somehow I'm Cinderella.

Out of all the questions, the last is the worst.

The rest are normal "let's match you to obvious characteristics of the characters".

The last just...ow. "What says 'Princess' more?" There's only one decent answer in that bunch.

              Oh, and I'm Aurora, apparently.

I'm still trying to figure out how my bid for power by ruling the kingdom landed me with Cinderella ;p

Also, I don't see any way it could even get to Mulan or Merida.

They specifically said Snow White, Belle, Ariel, Aurora, Jasmine, or Cinderella are your options on the first page.

Which is a shame, but they'd probably have to do more questions and programming, and who has time for that?

I got Belle. And it can't. The quiz only includes the first 6 princesses.

                    Here's a different one.

I got Pocahontas from that one.

                        Jasmine on that one.

That was a much better quiz overall.

Running a little late to the party - with regard to the, "why are sequels ignored," question, there's a simpler answer. You can't guarantee that the entire fanbase will have seen sequel, so drawing on details from it is riskier than sticking with the original.

That still doesn't explain Rapunzel, however. At least with Merida, there's some sense of continuity - by the end of the movie, she'd probably be more inclined to wear a fancy ball gown for special occasions, as long as it let her move and breathe reasonably. With Rapunzel, they're just white-washing out the last 15 minutes of the movie or so. =9_9=

I haven't seen Tangled yet, but from what I gather from Google she's a short haired brunette by the end?

Correct. I'll avoid spoiling you as to why, but suffice it to say that it's yet one more pale blonde for the Princess Pile.

I have a niece who is in the right age bracket for princesses. Belle is her favorite, because she's brunette.
