Some of the group shot's with them looking the same are years old, it's just that they have added new characters to the roster, the first time I saw them together I had no reference picture of their movie appearance, but that is why I leaned towards better one artist draws in one style than tries to emulate all those that came before.
And back to the Marvel analogy, just cos McFarlen left spiderman doesn't mean the next artist to take over should draw like McFarlen.

Disney's next film is based on The Snow Queen. They're the two Princesses in it.

Loosely based I guess, because looking at a synopsis (I've read it, but a looong time ago) there's only one unnamed princess. Lots of female characters though.

I, too, ended up with Pocahontas on that second quiz. The first one set me as Ariel.

Not for the princesses though. That's expected.

But did they really have to change all that to the original? I like "The Snow Queen".

I dunno, she seems a lot more Scandinavian than the generically medieval English (or in Belle's case, French, but I couldn't see too much cultural difference) of the other early princesses. Hoping for lovely native clothing ^^

I recall an old picture where they recoloured all the ladies' dresses to this pale gold. I loooooved that picture, and I haven't been able to find a decent-sized image of it.

I've always though Cinderella was French too. Or at least the mice were.

Here's the Wikia for the Disney Princesses. Now I know why I just don't remember this amount of glut from my childhood. The franchise didn't exist as such.

I think it looks better than the one used in all the news stories. She still looks a touch older, but sassy.

eta: andI don't get what people mean about "extensions." The hair is drawn in an exaggerated fashion, so what? Does that mean "extensions"?
re white-washing Mulan: I think the artist may have been trying to make her skin tone more varied like a person would be in real life. I would still consider "European decent" princesses to be paler than her (although I don't hear people complain when Anime characters, who are -clearly- Asian, are inked to be paler than me during the winter).

eta2: Ariel should be fairly tan if they were concerned with accuracy,

Basically, yes. It's the idea that you must fit this particular model "X" in order to make the grade. Characters who had much shorter hair suddenly have locks that go down their back. Like it's not good enough to have shorter hair.

Are we talking inked as in colored, like for TV? Or inked as in the black and white medium of manga? Cuz in the latter, well, what do you expect? Either way, if that's the initial design by the designer, it's fine. The issue that is being brought up is the fact that the girls, the princesses, are being changed from their original design to match some standard definition of beauty and what sort of message that does, or does not, send children.

I don't think Disney is particularly concerned about accuracy. And why should she be tan? She's at the bottom of the ocean most of her life!
