  • Covergirl to Create Hunger Games Make Up Line

    http://www.myhungergames.com/covergi...tol-collection

Hah, what? Cus nothing says Covergirl like forcing children to kill each other. Now you too can have the look of an oppressive regime that uses the misfortune of a dirt poor underclass as entertainment!

Isn't the whole vibe of the books very anti-establishment?

Mmm...the idea of it seems quite poor as a whole, but in all honesty, it's not the first time companies have screwed things up in terms of merchandising.

    Does anyone remember Oreo Barbie?

not suprised. i've seen makeup lines for twilight, nail polish for spiderman, disney body wash and tons of other pointless crap. it'll sit on a display, never sell, and eventually get cleared out or shipped back to the company. *shrug* just another annoying prepack.

once something hits that nice teenager demographic in sales, it doesnt matter what the original content was. companies will sell the hell out of it on whatever cheap goods they can.

So people wanted to look like the people from the Capitol, a makeup company obliges, and this makes them a bad company?

Sounds like smart marketing strategy to me. I love the books as much as the next person, but I think you are taking it too far.

          Actually funny you mention that.

There's this makeup brand down here called BYS, which is known for manufacturing rather "cheap" cosmetics. They're semi-decent, but at the same time, cheap as hell. (I only buy their nail polish, which is actually half-decent and has some interesting effects...they do colour change ones and recently released caviar and glitter)

and well.....THIS is what they released for the lips...

          and the eyeliner!

It'll be interesting to see whether the stuff Covergirl releases is actually decent enough to be mixed into someone else's everyday palette.
Or it could just be "inspired", I mean L'Oreal has done Wicked Queen as a colour set.

not seen the movie to know what kind of make up is being discussed, I just took it to be generic make up branded with hunger games logo's or sold in gift boxes.

When I was a child the merchandising was everywhere, it seems scaled back by comparison but you could get pencil cases, stationary sets and wall paper with whatever was big at the time, although I don't recall Transformers themed writing paper Barbie and Carebears no doubt had reams of, so part of me thinks that perhaps as my generation got older the production of merchandising scaled back, now we look at things as poor marketing choices, yet we had such things in our youths.

Although a Katnis fashion makeover head is probably not a good idea even if Barbie did one first.

Think bright, extreme colours. Not Neon, more just "bright" in general.

So I suspect there will be some bizarre face powder, eyeshadow and so on.

                Basically, super elaborate and obnoxious.

Nothing new here. Companies do it all the time. Wet 'N Wild has a Fergie line. The company I work for had Taylor Swift merch that was only exclusive to us (didn't sell much, hilariously enough). There was another brand that did Disney villains as a collection for Halloween make-up (that actually sold well).

Pretty much exactly what tweenie and teen girls who are into wearing makeup tend to go in for, more or less.

Did anyone really want to look like people from Capitol? They used some Covergirl make up on set for the people from Capitol and figured they'd try to sell it is what I get from the article. It doesn't make them a bad company, it just seems like a case of really not getting the thing you're trying to promote.

Oh, yes! There's a whole subculture of HG fans who are really into the Capitol Couture look.

Evil Empryss dressed as Effie Trinket for Halloween last year, and got the look down cold. A lot of people recognized the character and she found a bunch of people online who are into reproducing the Capitol Couture, sharing tips and what not.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

I'm planning a Capitol resident cosplay for the upcoming movie, still deciding on the overall look, but really, a lot of it is inspired by haute couture fashion, which tends towards the flamboyant.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would.

I'd love to dress up like this: http://www.marieclaire.com/cm/mariec...0412-s-lgn.jpg

                            On Halloween of course.

But I can easily imagine people who'd like to be super elaborate with their makeup. No one is trying to say they want to be like the people of the Capitol, enjoying the show of kids killing each other. They just want to dress like the fashion, two completely different things.

Yeah, I just like the wardrobe- as a wannabe fashion designer, I think I could come up with something hella cool. I've just found out that you can buy jewel beetle wings in large quantities, and people have been known to use them in clothing and jewellery. So I might have something really stunning to work with.
