Does anyone remember the not-very-well-publicized cases a year or three ago in which banks were caught trying to foreclose on houses to which they actually had no right, possibly in hopes that people would just give up and let them? I can't find the story right now, but I remember one guy did fight back and found some way to legally foreclose (or something) on his local branch of said bank.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bank doesn't care if he pays everything he owes on time, or whether the only screw-up was theirs; if they can take the house, they will.

Cracked had an article that contained a story about a guy who was being hassled by a bank about some fee or charge that had already been paid, when he took them to court and the judges ruled against the bank the bank ignored the verdict, so the judge ordered a foreclosure on the local branch, which was enforced by the police escorting the guy there to take possession of the banks assets

That was a Bank of America story.

And it's amazing how quickly they got the guy his money once he started in on their own tactics.
