  • Racial profiling -- an interesting video

Do you think this is accurate?

I'm going to be something of a fence-sitter and say it's certainly thought-provoking. Would've been interesting to see them try it out a few more times in other locations.

i think it is true. why? work. every time the summer workers of a minority group come in, certain coworkers watch them like hawks. drives me insane because they NEVER steal (wouldn't risk losing their jobs) and drop hundreds of bucks, in cash, on high end items to take home to their families.
heck i've seen the same youngish middle-eastern man in the store. when he's just off work in a suit no one bugs him, but on weekends in a hoodie and with his backpack, "ahhhh, he's a thief i bet, watch that one"
then again, tons of BS like that in my workplace.

Yeah, I have no doubt it's true. You can easily see the difference in attitudes that different people get for the same things if you just spend some time people-watching at malls.

You can see the difference... but also, you have to be careful that the connections you make are the same ones the people you observe are making. I tend to be a bit oblivious; the example I remember best (though not the most embarrassing or the most directly on-point one) was when I said to Mom, "hey, you have a Jewish colander." She was horrified, thinking I was referring to its banged-up condition. I wasn't thinking of that at all, and if I had been I wouldn't have associated it with Judaism; I was just looking at the way the holes were arranged into a pattern of six-pointed stars.

oh ya, i know some comments are unintentional, and know better than to assume it's from racism. but with my coworkers, its more like "those (ethnic group)s are back, go follow them and make sure they don't steal"

None of it surprises me. Everyone likes to act like they aren't racist/sexist/whatever, but you look at how our system work and gee whiz, people are still being treated different because of race, gay people still don't have equal rights, etc. etc. etc.

They film a lot of their episodes a few miles from me. I've never been part of it, but it's interesting to see the reactions of people who live near me.
