  • Cameras in the cable box

To watch our "reactions to ads" to bring us ads more to our liking? I just know I'm glad I don't have cable and only use Netflix and if I ever get a cable box again it will mean covering the box with a towel or something to interfere with it.

So far, we have a patent filed by Verizon and the plans for the new Xbox, which also has a patent filed by Microsoft.

Honestly, the law in place will do nothing to prevent them from being abused because the people who would abuse them don't care about observing the law. Whether it's the government engaging in another episode of security theater and claiming to provide more security by taking away even more rights or hackers riding in on signals to check out who watches TV naked, it will be abused.

If those things do start ending up in homes...it won't be long before someone posts plans online about how to remove that capability. It shouldn't be too hard to short out a mike or simply remove the camera

Depends on who owns the box, if it is rented then I would class that as damage and be one of the first things checked upon receiving a faulty set top box, citing that it would not be repaired for free due to user modifications etc.

With the Xbone, it being owner owned it would still be a warranty breaking user modification silencing the mic, the camera is just a case of turn it away if it is part of the Kinect or ductape.

The problem with the Xbox One and the Kinnect is that they're making the Kinnect somewhat integral to the control scheme, so if you plan to disable it there's a chance you'd be better off just getting a PS4, instead.

Although, with the reversal they just pulled on the net requirement and game authentication, they might end up backpedaling on other issues as well.

You could get one of those digital photo frames position it in front of the cable box and have it show Goatse 24/7

Or meatspin if done as a GIF (do those frames even allow for GIF?)

NB: Meatspin is WAY WAY WAY NSFW!!!!

                1) Yes, those picture frames can do animated images.
                2) Someone did an animation of goatse >_<

Let's just chalk it up to time zones, I've no idea what time it was your neck of the woods when I posted, but sometimes I post stuff when it's 4am over there.

Tub girl is rather meh, having said that I managed 2 girls three times in a row and failed to be impressed, and that's not the reason I don't eat chocolate ice cream, it's the fact I can't find any other than Neapolitan for sale.

The art of trolling had a chat roulette screen grab using a gif of a similar transsexual porno, bunch of 12 year olds freaking the shit out.

You posted at 5:36am my time. I saw this thread yesterday but didn't respond. You were quicker on the draw.

And let the conspiracy theory floodgates open.

I agree with the general consensus. If you're using a device that has a camera which purpose is to observe and record the user, and you don't agree with this recording. just stick a square of paper over the camera, drape a towel over the machine, or - if you're really into building stuff, aim a bare LED straight into the camera hole so the picture is whited out. Or, sure, if you really want to, put something obscene in front of the camera, and let them try to claim you're doing something illegal. That'd be a hoot.

Goatse is practically made for situations like this.
