Wrongly convicted man

A man srongly convicted of sex crimes back in the 1980's is released from jail after 24 years.

during his incraseration his wife divorces even though she was convinced of his innocense. There is some dispute who told who to "move on" and who stopped caring. The wife did apparently did try to come to the mans legal and monitary defence in the early years.

Now that the man has been freed the state of Texas has a law on the books to "compensate" said wrongly convicted person (using some formula) with dollars.

The problem is is now the man is fighting a bunch of legal battles INCLUDING his Ex-Wife. The Ex want a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

She was offered 150k, calculated as 115k she would have earned during the time she was married to him while he was jailed, plus her legal expenses.

She wants more.

... That makes absolutely no sense. The compensation is not for lost wages, it is for the damage done to a person by being falsely imprisoned for X number of years.

plus, even if the money WAS for lost wages, he should not be liable. why? becsause it wasn't him thta forced her to go through it. She might have a claim against Texas, but ultimately, the ruling would likely be that she chose to spend the money of her own free will, understanding the consequences, so nobody else is liable.

I'm just surprised that Texas, of all places, has such a law.
