  • Never thought I'd see a *third* amendment suit

An intriguing one this - police basically forced their way into a house to use it as a base to coordinate their response to a domestic disturbance call next door. Arrested the owners (obstructing police) for not letting them do so.

Throughout that entire article the was not one word I could see about them actually doing anything about the domestic they were setting up a base camp to deal with.

If they were willing to bust down a neighbours house and shoot the occupant with pepper balls, why the fuck did they not storm the house in question?
If it was a potential hostage situation they were trying to avoid or it was at that stage, I would think the other party would be more inclined to think they were storming the wrong house and possibly up their game.

No warrant + no permission = no entry

It appears to be a clear open and shut case from that article. If they are founds guilty, they should be immediately fired.

I really hope we can find out more about this.

From the article it sounds like the DV suspect had barricaded himself in his house. Which makes me understand why the cops wanted to use the home . . . but doesn't justify their actions.

The suspect barricaded himself into the house with a baby. http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/15055...-baby-in-house

I'm curious to know how strong the laws are to force neighbors to evacuate their homes in barricade/hostage cases. However, it still seems to me to require more than just a cop's say so to evict someone from their home . . . and the cops can't help themselves to what's in the home or leave it a mess.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

The Las Vegas Review Journal had an update to this story yesterday

            Link to the article

There are a lot of accusations by the Henderson and North Las Vegas Police Departments about the Mitchell family. They could even be true. The thing that sticks with me though is that all charges against the family were dropped, dismissed, or ignored.

I have an unfortunate bias when it comes to trying to formulate an opinion in this case. I've lived here in the Las Vegas area for 11 and a half years. About 7 of those years were living in Henderson and I've spent the entire time working in Henderson.

Henderson cops are assholes. Yes, it's a generalization and I hate generalizations, but Henderson cops are assholes.

I have been pulled over countless times by them for bullshit reasons. Claims I was speeding, when I wasn't, simply because I passed a cop that was going 10 miles under the posted speed limit. Claims I had a faulty brake light when they were working perfectly fine. I was even cited for having my tint too dark, when it was light enough to pass California's stricter laws.

And every time they pulled me over, they put me through a full field sobriety test. Even when it had been days, or even weeks, since I had a drink. At this point I could probably drink enough to give me alcohol poisoning and pass the physical/coordination portion of the test, I know it that well.

One time, they asked me a total of 8 times if I had any weapons in my truck and requested to search it. Nevada is an Open Carry State. I could've had an arsenal in my bed, a pistol on each hip, and a shotgun over my shoulder and they couldn't have done anything if I had the paperwork for them.

Las Vegas Metro, Nevada Highway Patrol, and even North Las Vegas (Despite their hardships) are all awesome. If you get pulled over or a ticket from them, it's because you deserved it. Well... except for the whole Metro likes to shoot people thing, but that's a different post.
