  • Vasectomy-a-thon!

    http://www.news.com.au/national-news...-1226676522416

So men around Australia are being invited to have a public vasectomy...

Yes, you heard that right...PUBLIC vasectomies...

    I mean, just.....WHY????

I can't wait for someone who's had the snip on the day coming back and telling us "hey doc, why is my dick bleeding?"

Surgery on privates should be done in private. (Who wants to watch, anyway?)

Besides, getting a vasectomy is the sort of thing you should do after careful consideration, not because a crowd of other people are doing it and/or you want an excuse to show off your parts. On the other hand, the sort of people who would get one for those reasons probably should have one anyway

The even bigger kicker? This is being held in my state.

While we're not exactly the "bible belt" of Australia, I can see this going bad VERY quickly...

I can think of a lot of people that I would like to sign up for this. I dont myself since I have no kids, but I know of quite a few guys that could use the procedure.

The reason operating rooms are often referred as operating theaters because for many years that's exactly what they were: theaters. Even the general public could come and watch operations; doctors sold tickets.

I think this whole thing is pretty disturbing. Vasectomy is something that is very personal and should be done only after consulting with ones spouse (if married), if at all, because it is permanent.

Better access to birth control and education of women is a far more effective way to control our population than vasectomies. Women in developing nations (where birth rates are the highest), once they have the option not to get pregnant, take advantage of that opportunity. Birth rates in industrialized nations are actually declining.

So there is no need for Australia to do something like this in the first place.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

Meh, I don't see what's the big deal. They show breast implant surgeries on the discovery health channel. I saw one as a kid.

Is it free? I could see a huge interest if it was free. Hell, if I lived in the area and it was free, I'd probably sign up just to save on the costs.

As long as the person being operated on is okay with it, I don't see what the big deal is.

They have shown vasectomies and tubal ligations before on TV,years back (those who remember the show Good Medicine will know what I'm referring to).
The big difference is that it's being done somewhere that isn't a hospital or set up as a medical practice full stop. It's being done in a place normally reserved for science...o.o.

I doubt it. Given that the patients will most likely need to have talked with their GP first (to establish that yes, they are going to have the snip and then coming back for aftercare) and then had to drive to the location and go through all of that, while the operation itself may/may not be free, the costs in time, money and getting to/from the location are going to add up.

I don't see a problem with it. There's going to be doctors and other medical staff involved, and it's not as if they're dragging bums off the street or prisoners. And ultimately, it's the patients body. His body, his choice.

Considering that the sponsors want to have an official vasectomy day and this is sort of a launch event, I can very much understand where they're coming from.

Also, as regards the "need" for doing this, the reason they chose Australia is because the people of Australia are already more open to the idea of vasectomies than most of the rest of the world, making it much more likely to be a successful event.

Honestly, I have no issue with the event, nor the manner in which they're trying to promote it.

I originally envisioned a scene from the latest cosmetic commercial on YouTube, it's either for a brand known for male products or entering the market, I don't normally let it run long enough, once the skip ad appears it's clicked.
But it is in a shopping centre and there is a curtained off area for the make over

"Good afternoon sir, can I interest you in a vasectomy?"
