  • I Hate Helicopter Parents

I finally had the misfortune of encountering one of these abusive parental figures this afternoon. She has left me wanting to rip some sort of limb off something and beat another something with the bloody end.

Helicopter parent's daughter was one of three we picked up from the airport today. We'd had this arranged for months if not a year, with full informing and disclosure not exactly a secret, a meet-up for a bunch of us who are part of an online writing group. The coach and then the bus we had to get to get back home were hot and slightly hellish, and on the latter she started to get really sick. Thankfully we managed to get her to a bed where she zonked immediately.

I should also mention that she is an adult, not a child; she is a graduate, employed, and well into her twenties.

In comes the bitch, using her daughter's FB to harrass not only Housemate but our friends as well, telling us - demanding of us - to wake daughter up so she could tell her 'something very important'. When we did, she said she would rather speak to her mum later and sleep now; but that wasn't good enough. When we called her out on it, saying a blunt 'No' and telling her to stop bossing us about, she threatened to call the authorities.

So daughter called the cunt, told her off for a moment for being rude to us but she was soon subdued. This 'important' shit that she wanted to tell? Just to make sure she had arrived. Despite daughter telling her from the plane, the concourse, the coach; our other friends and us all telling her repeatedly that she was in the UK with friends, nope, not good enough, she demanded her sick grown-up daughter wake up for her fucking helicoptering.

She's here for two weeks and we're the hotel. I'm beginning to think offering our flat for ease of trips was a Godawful mistake and I should have told her to go to a real hotel. I don't want to have to deal with this fucking bitchy RUDE cunt for fourteen days. If it sounds unreasonable on our part, I can clarify, but the sheer rudeness and the threat coupled with the complete dominance of a child adult has really ruined this for me, almost ready to say fuck this and sleep at my boyfriend's for a fortnight. One of the other two we picked up is the father of the other - son and dad team - and he was horrified that she thought this was acceptable behaviour.

TL;DR - Helicopter parents are abusive, ruining cunts.

Hate people like her. Hopefully, you won't have to deal with this bitch too much on the trip. At least the actually customer (the daughter) sounds nice enough.

It's your phone. It's your FB. Tell her that if she can't be civil, she can't contact you through those mediums.

I don't put up with this sort of thing out of third parties. I will not be a go-between or middleman.

Daughter's lovely, and now it's morning we all feel better. Hopefully beloved smother will shut the hell up on us now.

Wondering what exactly the 'authorities' would have done... but it was threat enough.

The girl is an adult? Mama Bear needs to eff off and let her enjoy her trip. Pathetic.

Not a goddamned thing once it was established that the woman in question was legally an adult. Legally they can not do anything as no crime has been committed.

I'd have called the mother's bluff myself.

Absolutely! Let Mommy Dearest work herself into an apoplectic fit when she can't contact daughter on a moment's notice.

Same here (especially since the daughter was ill and said she'd call home later). "Fine, ma'am, you do whatever you think best." *click*

She needs to get a good bitch-slap from reality, and that would've done the trick -- at least in the short term.
