  • Yes, because we all know that REALLY works...

    http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/par...-1226683546833

So a 14-year-old girl attends a pro-choice rally (which the media has stupidly labelled pro abortion) with her dad, holding up a sign that she had made herself.

Apparently the best way to shut her up was to label her a whore, slut and various other non Christian labels. Girl points out that she is a virgin. Cue yet more abuse.

    Thoughts?

It always amuses me when anti-choice groups/people complain about signs like this when theirs are always so much worse. It's perfectly fine to show an 'aborted' fetus (I've personally seen more than one where you can see the line from where it was molded), but as soon as the opposition comes in with something they see as inappropriate, all hell breaks loose.

Bravo for this girl. If I had the chance at that age, I'd be out there doing the same thing.

personally, crap like that is why i can't help but associate the pro-life movement as really being anti-woman.

I had a runaway train of a conversation, well it would have been a conversation if either party spoke much, so it was more me just hopscotching from topic to topic.

I had seen a 3d ultrasound jpg and you can get the data sent to a 3d printer, so I had decided to take the conversation down the lets make a foetus chocolate mould cul-de-sac not so long after talking about taking a hammer to a chocolate knob's nut sack.

If I were so inclined I probably would hand out chocolate treats but I don't know if we have an abortion clinic and if we do it's not got issues as it's rather quiet round here on that front.

When I was in my teens (LONG ago, LOL) I fished an envelope out of the mailbox one day and noticed that, oddly, it had no return address, no addressee, and no postage. Very puzzling. I ripped it open (hey, there was no name on it ) and it was exactly that sort of thing: the "Make 'Em Puke" tactics. Initially I had exactly the reaction they wanted. Once I had calmed down, I decided that if shock tactics were all they had, they didn't have much.

I've never been pregnant and can't imagine being faced with that sort of decision. In view of that, it's nunnamybiz what a woman who IS in that position decides to do. (It's not the radical right's business either, but of course they'll never agree to that.)

Ms. Cain's sign is really provacative. Wow.

For those who haven't looked, she wrote, "Jesus isn't a Dick, so keep him out of my vagina."

Wow. What a sign. Mind you, I don't disagree with it, and I'm not offended by it. Jesus himself did a lot of really provocative things by the standards of his time.

            I think he would approve.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

At least it's not a picture of a woman having an abortion or a dead foetus. >.>

I've noticed the issue tends to be with one of two things (or both):

              1) her age. Some people seem to believe that she's been groomed from a young age for this stuff or that she's having sex when she's legally too young to do so.
              2) the lettering on the sign. People just seem to want to get offended over it, but then also talk about how Christians are being repressed -.-

                Irony!

They can take offense all they want, but someone else expressing an opinion is about as far away from "oppression" as possible.

They may not like what she has to say, but if they have any integrity at all, they'll respect her right to say it.

Well the fringe does that to everyone. It's why being anti-zionist is often confused with anti-semitism (for some it does come from the same place, for some it's just a reasoned stance coming from a different premise). It's why not supporting a specific LGBT initiative can often be interpreted as homophobic. I know pro-life people I wouldn't consider anti-women so much as fervently believing things about conception that are fundamentally incorrect. But some of them absolutely are.

On topic... fringe... just ick. I think that stuff is horrible, but frankly if you are a protester on a polarizing issue, this is going to happen.

This. Absolutely this. From most accounts in the bible, Jesus wasn't so much about doing what was appropriate, socially acceptable, or politically correct. He was about doing what's right, and being kind to all others. That's something many of his more vocal advocates seem to have forgotten.

And yes, he liked shaking things up, getting in people's faces and stepping on their toes (dining with outcasts, tossing commercial interests out of the temple) to make them take notice. I, too, think he'd have approved. Maybe even liked Cain on Facebook

                      Hear, Hear.

Just tweeted on that one. What a brave and smart girl. He should be proud of how he's raising her.

Wow, what an amazing young woman. It's just so sad that people are calling her such horrible things for supporting her beliefs, while if you questioned certain people on the other side they would scream at you for disrespecting their rights for free speech. I have friends who are Pro-life, and friends that are pro-choice. Everyone agrees that some of the more graphic pro-life protests are just disturbing.

In relation to Jesus, a minister friend once said to me "It's sad how many people take Jesus fanfiction, as canon." Because, as ms. Caine says, Jesus is not a dick. But people like to make him out like one to serve their own stances.

Finally, this is a comedicysong in which ladies sing about how they need male senators to make decisions about their lady parts for them. It's quite good satire.

Anyway, off to tweet at Tuesday about how awesome she is.
