  • Missing the point much?

A US attorney in WV is using the Steubenville rape case to launch a new educational program called "Project Future Two-a-days".

It's supposed to help teach athletes about the dangers of alcohol and social media.

Because the Steubenville rape case was all about alcohol and social media, right?

I'mma go cry for my state now...

So he basically wants to teach a class about how to commit crimes and not leave so much evidence.

That's what it reads like. I'm sure the point is to remind students that the internet is forever but...

I thought alcohol was a major factor in that case, while social media only had to do with its exposure.

            Right, but about the alcohol.

Has anyone told him yet how stupid that is and that he missed the point?

                No no no.

                This is missing the point.

THAT is promoting criminal activity and should be treated as such.

At first, I thought you were referring to the link as promoting criminal activity, and not the thread topic.

But, yes, the link is utterly about missing the point so hard, you're on the other side of the planet.

How is the comic about the evils of Windows 8 missing the point, and if it's intended to relate to the rest of this other than as an example of missing the point, how so?

Read up on how people feel about Win8, and how they react to the news that the update will put something that looks like the start button back and you'll understand.

Hell, if you want, you can just find my thread in the Things I Hate section here on Fratching for an idea.

People want to avoid the tile interface and go to the retro desktop, but they miss the start button, because they need to open the tiles to chose programs.

They therefore request the start button to be reinstated, so they donĀ“t need to deal with the tiles.

Instead a start button that takes you directly to the tiles is added.

                        They missed the point in that people wanted the start button back precisely in order to be able to avoid the tiles;

So the comic *isn't* missing the point, then: those behind the change in Windows are. Got it. (And I fully agree. I haven't seen 8.1 yet, but 8 is awful, and not just because of the tiles.)

I hate the tiles, and I hate not being able to just go to my list of "all programs" in the start menu. The programs that the tiles take you to are ALL full screen interfaces that want to be on top of everything else, which makes multitasking a pain in the ass. Not like a nice little notepad or wordpad window, which doesn't insist on taking up the whole goddamn screen.

Win8 has shitty documentation. If you want a program or file and know the name, go to the Metro screen (the tiles) and just type the name. It's the only part of the OS that is an improvement.

And it really is a huge improvement. But you wouldn't know about it unless you read some feature list or had someone else tell you about it; the implementation is just that dysfunctional.
