Gang members are not stupid. They're a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. Ignorant, violent, for many even "Not intelligent." Plenty wrong with them. But if they want to convey "I am in (this gang)" then they will do that. Ban one thing, they'll find another one. The only way you can ban everything that might be gang related, is if you have a dress code as strict as the US Army. Take away the hat, there's something else. Something else after that. And something else after that.

Edit: And pink on guys is gang related? Yeah, there is a gang like that. But if someone said "Quick, come up with a gang related color" I'd jump to either red or blue. Convenient, isn't it, how the gang-related things that we ban are all unusual anyway?

Funny enough, we don't have many gang related crimes here. It just doesn't happen too often. And I live close enough to the ghetto that I can taste it.

I love how so many of these school systems that are all up in arms with these dress codes that cut down in certain hairdos and clothing that are "potentially disruptive" are often the same school systems that take little to no action against bullies. Because clearly bullies have never been disruptive to anyone's ability to learn.

Of course not. Because any argument that could be made for that line of thinking would be so convoluted or nonsensical that it would fall over on to it's face from the sheer weight of its own absurdity.i

The concept clearly doesn't come out of thin air. Such things happen all the time, and have been happening for decades, if not longer. And many schools turn a blind eye towards bullying because to actually address it would be far more difficult than ignoring it or dismissing it as "kids will be kids."

Of course it's an old school way of thinking. And it generally doesn't work that well. But if there's one thing this country does really well, it's ignoring the fact that a certain way of addressing things doesn't work or isn't effective, and continuing to do it the same way over and over again,

Actually, Songs, it's a sad but true fact that there are many people who don't respect themselves. But that sad fact of life has absolutely NOTHING to do with the argument that's been put forth here against certain clothes and hairdos.

Do you keep your hair long and it's natural shade because you don't want to be seen as 'not normal' or do you do that because that's how you like to keep your hair?

I'm of the opinion that repressing your own wishes just to "keep the peace" when there's no reason what you want to do should actually break the peace is failing to respect yourself. If you love your hair the way it is, the fact that it's considered the norm by prevailing social standards is utterly irrelevant.
