Ignorance Against Miss America

So, a new Miss America has been crowned. She's Indian-American. And some ignoramuses on the internet are apparently losing their shit because... well, because they're racist. They're saying things like it's a disgrace that she was crowned so close to the anniversary of 9/11, that how dare a "Muslim" get the crown, that she's not even American (hello, ever heard of multiculturalism? "American" doesn't mean "white" ), etc. My favorite from the article is:

"WHEN WILL A WHITE WOMAN WIN #MISSAMERICA? Ever??!!" screamed another.

when in the picture the new Miss America is being crowned by the 2013 Miss America, who is... you guessed it! White!

My country would be so much more great if not for so many of its citizens >.>

I'd think that the fact that she was competing in the first place would indicate she's not Muslim, or at the very least not practicing. The whole modesty, cover women up thing and all.

But of course thinking has nothing to do with those complaints.

Um - she was *born* in NY state, in the USA - she is *American* of Indian descent. Does she have dual citizenship?

If you are born in the US and do not have dual citizenship, you are American of *X* descent. I don't care what color your skin happens to be, or what your specific genotype happens to be - what counts is your birth certificate.

Not entirely. There are actually no hard and fast rules about whether a woman should cover up or not in Islam. It's generally either the woman's choice or is encouraged as a cultural thing in particular countries.

If the woman chooses not to cover up, then the only times that she IS meant to cover up are for mosque and for Muslim festivals.

The ratios would be higher if Pakistan were still part of India. When the Brits pulled out a referendum was held because of all the tension between Muslims and Hindus in India; the result was the creation of a Muslim State, Pakistan.

There was mass confusion and chaos as Muslims who were ethnically from the south moved north, and Hindi's who were ethinically from the north moved south.

It's also why Pakistan and India have fought 4 wars and continue to view each other as their respective greatest enemy.

All of which has nothing to do with this lovely young woman who was crowned Miss America. She's beautiful; I'm sure she deserves her crown.
