It insulting to everyone involved.
Even more stupid is that electrical connectors are actually far more complex than just the male/female dichotomy. (hermaphrodites are technically adapters) There's also the issue of being able to have a male socket or a female jack. Try explaining that to the idiots trying to claim tradesmen will be confused "because gay marriage."

I highly doubt there are many male, heterosexual tradesmen out there that don't know EXACTLY how to scissor together two female parts. In fact I would confidently bet my life savings that even as we speak there are a number of tradesmen in Australia who are currently viewing, planning to view or thinking about viewing an instructional internet video on the topic as soon as they get home.

Even they agree, the woman doing this said that it was obviously supposed to be a joke to show people that it's instinctive knowledge that male and female go together.

I mean that doesn't make it not stupid, just that we shouldn't be treating this as if she's SINCERELY SAYING that people will be confused.

Except it doesn't really work as a joke.

Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

I didn't say it was funny, I just said it was SUPPOSED to be funny.

Actually scissoring is a laughable part of the porn industry since it is pretty much is pointless and not very satisfying for the two doing it.

For the most part real lesbians get a massive chuckle at all the people who think that it's a thing for them.

The only reason it's in the public mind is that it's a very camera friendly position that "looks" like it does something.

Sadly that "something" is usually faked.

And what about androgynous connectors (not hermaphrodites, where 2 identical connectors "mate")? A couple examples:

                        - Fully insulated quick-disconnects. The housing on the female goes into the housing on the male - in this case, I'm taking "male" and "female" based on which ordinary (not fully insulated) quick-disconnects would be called.

                        - Molex connectors (such as the family used for the main power supply connector for an ATX motherboard). The shells and pins are sold separately. You have male and female shells (based on whether the plastic shell is a plug or socket), and male and female pins (based on whether the metal pin is a plug or socket), with the pins being inserted into the shells after they are crimped onto the wires. If your application uses male pins in a female socket (look at the back of a standard hard drive and you'll find this), is it a male or female connector?

Male vs Female in the connector world is pretty simple. If it's got pins, it's male, if it's got socket contacts, it's female.

So, you can have male and female sockets and you can have male and female plugs. As you might imagine, plugs (also called jacks) fit inside sockets, but that doesn't have any bearing on their gender.

The fact that there are socket connectors and socket contacts can be a bit confusing if you're not familiar with it all, however.
