It does look really unnatural now that I bother to look up what the big deal is suppose to be. Its sort of weird. Like you can tell when a woman has an unnatural thigh gap vs one who has a thigh gap just due to her height/hip width. The former looks almost kind of freaky. Like my brain is telling me something is wrong but can't quite place it. Until I realize they have wobbly twigs for legs.

Olympic athletes do not have thigh gaps. Why does anyone else think they NEED one? >.>

No one needs one. It is a completely artificial way of looking at the human body.

It's unhealthy. People should be thinking in terms of percentage of body fat, not weight, BMI or this unscientific "gap" nonsense.

Even then, lifestyle also needs to be considered. A person with low body fat who is living a risky lifestyle (say, by taking anabolic steroids to build muscle mass) is at greater risk of cardiovascular disease than someone who's just a few pounds heaver than they "should" be, but who is otherwise healthy and eats healthy and is active.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

Looking back at my old (albeit, terrible) artwork, I noticed that the only women who came close to having any sort of "gap" was a 5'2" angel and a 5' amazon girl, both with (relatively) petite figures.

Even my most "modelesque" character, 5'8" and fairly slim, lacks the gap. =Þ And I'm okay with that; makes 'em seem "juicier" in my eyes.

It's super unrealistic and ridiculous, but I feel like a bit of a failure every time I realize I do not have it.
My personal trainer at 14% body fat doesn't have a thigh gap. it's pelvic structure. unless you malnourished yourself to the point of unhealthy, or have your hips broken and reset for simple cosmetic purposes.....

If I could find a full body photo of myself before I was admitted for treatment of anorexia, I'd post it. I was 85 pounds, at 5'4", did not have a thigh gap. You know who else doesn't have one when standing with her feet together?

So do I, especially if I'm wearing wool (all my Sabbath suits are wool of some type). It typically takes no more than three wearings before I see the cloth starting to give way. Yup, all my family got the thunder thighs. (I'm male, incidentally. Shalom is a man's name, the existence of Ms Shalom Harlow notwithstanding.)

So do what I do, and get your trousers lined. My tailor uses some sort of slippery smooth cloth, probably some synthetic like polyester or dacron. He puts it in from just above the knee to halfway up the buttocks.

You'll wear out the lining every so often, sure, but that's replaceable. I just sent one of my suit pants in this week to have the lining redone, because when I took it off the other night, I found two half-circles of lining were just missing, right from the crotch. If I hadn't caught that, I'd have to say goodbye to a halfway decent suit pretty soon.

(Of course that's why I always get cuffs when I have the legs finished. That's a few inches of extra cloth that can be salvaged for patches if I do wear through the cloth.)

Not that I'm using it as meaning the WHOLE industry, America's Next Top Model contestants are generally a Size 2-4 and will stay that way post-contest. Only 2 of the winners were Size 0 and 1 was a Size 6. Ironically the Size 0 winners have been criticised for resembling anorexic models and in one ep of ANTM, they actually kicked out one contestant who was showing signs of an eating disorder and did not make it into the industry after that. (In fact, during a photo shoot and during panel, the contestant in question had trouble getting a decent photo that WASN'T showing off her skeletal frame (they were in bikinis) and when her thin-ness was pointed out, she simply said that she needed to be THINNER).

You're right. I also realize I left out the Pectineus too. I was thinking of the three named Adductor, not the 5 total that actually perform adduction.

Not to nitpick, but your choice of photos of Kate Moss doesn't show her thighs in one pic and she clearly has her legs crossed in the second.

um, she's walking forwards in that picture. There is no actual thigh gap.

Thigh gap needs the feet to be together, and her's are most decidedly not in that pic. In fact, it's very difficult to impossible to find any image of Moss with her feet together.

A blog article about the issue with an excellent example photo

An interesting article at the Daily Mail

She does have a thigh gap. There are a bajillion other pictures.

I don't know how this became a point of contention of all things. >.>

Its pretty easy to see that her legs are sticks. She definitely has a gap.

That pic only took 5 seconds to find. >.>
