  • Judge gives confessed rapist a slap on the wrist

I have no words for this.

In Oct 2011, Sir Young raped a then 14-year-old girl in the music room of their school.

He admits that she told him "no" and "stop" as he took off her pants and continued to tell him "no" as the attack continued.

The judge ruled that Young should serve 45 days in jail and spend two days behind bars each year beginning on October 4 -- the anniversary of the rape -- during his five years of probation.

Oh, and she wants him to serve 250 hours of community service at a rape crisis center. Fortunately, the local center has stated he's not welcome.

Why such the light sentence? Well, according to the judge, the victim "wasn't the victim she claimed to be", as she'd had, shock and horror!, three sexual partners and a pregnancy!

Never mind the poor victim and her mother say she's never been pregnant, when the hell did having sex with others and being pregnant exclude you from being raped?

Spent a fair amount of time trying to come up with a response. I just can't. Judges are supposed to be the best in the law profession and these stories make me lose almost all faith in the law profession (My girlfriend being the only thing that gives me hope).

The only upside I got from that article was the judge has removed herself and another judge has been appointed.

Yeah. I'm betting all the bad publicity is hurting her reelection campaign.

The campaign where she's running unopposed? Doesn't matter what she does, she's getting elected.

Didn't see that part. Just that she was. Too bad then. Maybe this will cause some opposition next cycle.

actually, I think the idea behind community service in a rape crisis center is hoping it will show the rapist what his victim felt. Of course, it's still a stupid idea, but it sounds more like it was well-intentioned, just badly thought through.

it's no excuse for giving such a light punishment, even if he is remorseful.

                  I read this earlier.

That fact that the judge is a WOMAN made it even worse.

How so? I don't see how it'd be okay to let rapists run about if men did it.

How is the gender equality battle supposed to be won when we have women in powerful position such as this doing their best to hold women down?

Stop thinking binary. No one said it's okay, just that it's worse when a woman says women have little rights and protections.

It is binary. There's a rapist who's not being punished. I can see no way this would be improved if the person responsible for it had a penis.

This isn't something like racism where historically all (or nearly all) the things that hurt one group are from the other group. Women have been anti-woman as much as men have. The suffragettes had anti-suffragist women. Sexism has, as far as I can tell, always been perpetuated at a societal level rather than on a group level.

Because if it were a guy, you'd think that he's just showing solidarity with his fellow penis-card holder. With a woman, it feels like a freakin' sucker punch. Especially when she's trying to slut shame on top of it.

And this is sadly true as well. It's part of, again, why it feels worse when a woman does things like this.

And that's not to say that it's not objectively heinous from either sex/gender. It just feels subjectively worse.

Judge Get Slapped by Montana Supreme Court

This judge has been censured and been suspended for 31 days. That doesn't seem harsh enough, but at least he's paying for his poor judgement. He should have been removed from the bench.

Corey Taylor is correct. Man is a "four letter word."
