  • Teen kicked out of her prom

for wearing a dress that was alledgedly "too short" even though it WAS within the schools "dress code" ie. the dress length must be longer on the leg than your finger tips. YET some of the "chaperone" Dads in the balcony were "just plain ogling the young women and "claimed" her dress was too short and provoicative.

(see the photo in the 1st article)

This is almost as bad as the one prom/dance back a couple of years ago where male and female teachers were actually checking under the females dresses to make sure they had some kind of underware on.
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

It's another case of "blame the victim and not the perpetrator".
“There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do.” - Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor.

well, the dress IS pretty short, judging by the pcture in the article. It looks to me like it barely covers her ass. But yeah, if it complied with the dress code, she should have been allowed to stay. As for the chaperones ogling her- why were they allowed to do it? ( there's no indication they were punished. Siunce I doubt all the chaperones were ogling the kids, why not kick out the ones who were, aftyre all, behaving extremely inappropiately)

This is why I think any religion that makes their people paranoid about sex is bullshit. They don't want anyone having "impure thoughts", so they attempt to control everything else and make everyone feel extremely guilty. From the boys for having said thoughts to the girls for "enticing" them. No one should feel guilty unless it escalates to harassment (in which case, only the perpatrator who should be ashamed).

I've read the story, and followed a few links for more info. This is disgusting - she was in compliance with the dress code and was ordered to leave, but ephebophile chaperones who were derelict in their duty (after all, part of the duty of a chaperone is to make sure people behaving inappropriately - such as adult men blatantly ogling teenage girls - either shape up or leave) were allowed to stay. Also, she was part of a carpool, so ejecting her would involve ejecting the rest of the pool, or having her stand around outside until the event was over. The other pool members were promised a refund on their tickets if they left, but as soon as they were outside - "No refunds, suckers!".

A comment in an article I reached via a chain of links revealed what was probably the REAL reason - this happened in Richmond VA (former capital of the Confederate States of America), the girl was white, and her date was black. Gotta stop that miscegenation.

I think the issue is that thanks to ever-increasing political correctness women in this country are being so sexualized that pretty soon they would be accused of causing "impure thoughts" even if they wore a potato sack.

Hell there are many high schools that don't allow the girls to wear sleeveless tank tops because "it was causing the boys to be too distracted."

Well I was once a teenage boy once. A girl wearing anything would distract us.

But there is another "kicked out of prom tale," this time from my home turf. This girl went to her high school prom in a dress that was not slutty or anything. She was curvy (as in Katy Perry type curvy) so any dress would make her stick out like a sore thumb. Some school officials overheard some of the boys making overt sexual comments about her and decided to tell her to leave "because her being there might cause an incident" but let the boys stay. WTF?

When I saw this at first I thought it must be a joke from a satirical website. Imagine my shock...

That's just shameful. I read a news bite about an Islamic cleric who said women (who already wore burkhas) should cover one eye because otherwise they might tempt men because they had two visible eyes. Because walking into shit due to your depth perception being fucked up is OK as long as men aren't made to think lustful thoughts about both your eyes.

(that's the extreme(r) version and obviously it never caught on, but it's same idea- I wonder how many of these good Christian dads would be pleased to be compared to this cleric)

I've been thinking about this and I have a question: Who else saw these adult men "ogling" her besides this girl and her friends? Is it possible that these girls were calling it that just to spite the chaperons who had her thrown out? What if her dress constantly was riding up every time she bent over and every person there could see her underwear? Doesn't this sound like EXACTLY the kind of thing a bunch of teenage girls would make up against a bunch of adults who pissed them off? It sounds just the right amount of spiteful revenge to me.

Now, I have no idea what really happened. We have one side of the story. Maybe the dads were being a bunch of perverts. Does anyone REALLY know what happened just from hearing the girls' side?

the point is that the dress was within the dress code, which specified fingertip length. I happen to agree it is short. It is still within the guidelines that the school set out.

the chaperones were defintiely leering thouhg- it's why she was licked out.

Who said they were leering though? The girls who were pissed off about her being kicked out? No way they could just be vindictive and making stuff up to get back at the adults, right?

Well, in the article that wolfie links, the claim about the male chaperones leering at the girl came from the female chaperone/teacher(?) who kicked them out - the same one who initially wanted to refuse the girl admission based on the dress being too short, and only reluctantly admitted her after being shown that the dress complied with the dress code.

From the wording of that article, I'd speculate that there wasn't any actual leering going on - just the one woman angry that she couldn't deny the girl entry just because she didn't like the way she looked in that dress, so she made up some bullshit reason to kick her out.

However, I might of course be wrong in my speculation. And yes, it's equally possible the girl made up some or all of her claims because she was pissed at being kicked out. Still, she's correct in that her dress was according to the dress code, and thus shouldn't have gotten her kicked out.

here's the blog post from the student who got kicked out (well it was her sister's blog, that she posted on).

I actually posted a TIH thread about teachers who won't admit their wrong, but I now realize it could apply to any stubborn jackass, especially if they have some kind of authority.

It doesn't sound like any of the dads were leering or anything. It could have happened, but it's not like you can prove it.

                          there's several things, thiouhg.
                          1) she was kicked out- this may or may not be acceptable, depending on why. On current information, it looks like she was throw out out of spite over her dress actually being long enough
                          2) refunds- this is where it gets interesting. why was she refunded and not her friends? If she was kicked out, normal procedure where i live is to deny refunds for entry fees. So why was she refunded, and not her friends?
                          3) leering- were the chaperones actually leering? As if so, those chaperones should have been thrown out.
