    preventing vaccination and homeschooling

So the mother "kidnaps" her daughter (as in doesn't return her from a custody visit) because she doesn't want her vaccinated.

On top of that, the mother had met some nutjob and didn't want her kidlet learning about "black history" so she planned on homeschooling her.

Surprise surprise, dad is cracking down as is the state.

I'm just more amazed that the state is actually DOING something...don't most cases go in favour of the mother?

Generally, yes. BUT in any case where custody is being argued over in court, it is illegal to take a child without permission and run away. If you cross state lines, it becomes a federal crime. If you have joint custody of any sort, you can't takeoff like that.

...and fortunately, courts are even more biased against kidnappers than they are towards mothers.

Most custody situations do favor the mother. But there are exceptions, such as when the mother is doing drugs (unclear if this is applicable here), is violent (not applicable here), violates the custody agreement (applicable), defies the court (applicable), or is exhibiting signs of mental disturbance (applicable).

Why was I not surprised to see that this nutter is from Florida? And not some rural area of north or central Florida, where you might expect to find some Confederate-minded crazies, but from Sunrise, which is basically the Fort Lauderdale area. More proof that Florida clearly is the Center of Weirdness in this country.
