I can accept that this was a encounter between both a shitty parent and a vindictive asshole.

actually that is mostly my point- though I DID mention that we only know ( and I doubt we'll find out) what the guy who bought the pies said about the incident.

I should clarify that my point about the possibility of the kid being autistic or something was to explain one reason why the guy's behaviour was unreasonable- he, in a bad mood, decided to take his own measures to punish both mother and child. Was the mother an asshole? probably. But the man who deliberately bought all the pies definitely was.

I unwittingly bought all the pies once at a McDonalds, but only cuz they only had three left and I did buy them all, back in the days when I was suffering from compulsive eating disorder. Reading this, I wonder if there were any disappointed children in the queue behind me... but then, seeing as at the time I was an overweight hulk, I expect that if there were, they were too scared of me to say anything. XD

In any case, disappointment is something we all have to deal with and the sooner this kid learns this, the better.

that situation is different though- in that you were motiated by actually wanting that number of pies. The issue isn't as such that he bought all the pies- but that he deliberately bought all the pies. It is the fact that it was done deliberately that si the issue.

I probably would have bought more if there were more tho.

as I said, it's about motivation- you weren't acting out of spite. It's the spite that's the problem, not the act of buying the pies.

Agreed. When someone buys out all the pies, there's a BIG difference between their motive being "Yummy pies - how many do you have?" and "I want to keep that person behind me from getting a pie". For the first, the worst I'd say about such a person is that they're self-absorbed. The second is simply an asshole.
