It seems there's a cop thread every day on Fark now.

Police smash a car window and taser the passenger after he fails to provide ID during a seat belt stop.

Black foster kid seen entering home of a white family—the ones who took him in. Police are called, assume he's a buglar, and wind up pepper spraying him.

Are we getting to the point where, if we want competent honest police, we need to bring in the Keystone Kops - and appoint Roscoe P. Coltraine as Chief?

Honestly, at this point I put cameras on every beat cop that's expected to interface with the public as a member of the force. Most other jobs have some form of monitoring and honestly it's only going to hurt the ones that can no longer back up their stories. For perps that are guilty, well it's going to show that too. But either way, the supervisors of these guys need a way to monitor that's better than what their partner is going to say.

Undercover you're obviously just not going to ever know.

Yeah, I saw this. Both the police and the man are at fault here.

The police use minor traffic violations as a pretext to profile and search vehicles on fishing expeditions. Seat belt violations are a primary offense in most states; write the ticket and move on.

However, the passenger should have complied with police orders. They made no effort to stop the video taping by the teenager in the back, so I think their focus was on the refusal to obey a lawful order.

I think since the stop was probably over the top the charges should be dropped and the cops re-educated on proper procedure.
