I'm angry because of what I perceived as a complete lack of response by the management. It felt like I was being blown off. It didn't feel like the guy was weary from having to field dozens of complaint calls about them.
He was probably sick of the protesters being there, same as your not liking it. But you can't have them removed unless.... I forget exactly what, but there was a list McDonald's had in the office, along with other "do this, don't do that" stuff in case a protest happened. Basically, "call this number, don't talk to anyone about it, and leave them alone unless they do xyz. Oh, and don't give that number to anyone, ever."
"My in-laws are country people and at night you can hear their distinctive howl."

Primary reason (and this is most likely the with the OP's incident) is that the store doesn't OWN the property, they're renting it from the property management company. This hamstrings their capabilities a great deal, in particular the fact that outside of the doors they can't say or do much of anything so long as there's no crime being committed. The store representatives will have to phone the property owner who will send a representative over and kick the people off the property.

That said, with them preventing people from leaving there is a potential charge of unlawful detainment here and a phone call to the police would have ended that dispute. Most commonly the protestors would have been informed that they cannot block the entrances and if they refused to comply they would be arrested under that charge.

apparently greenpeace didn't like the varieties of seafood(because of they way the seafood is allegedly caught) they were selling. But they're against aquacultue as well.

Now they're going after whole foods, should be interesting.

Is that what that was all about? They're idiots.

And AD, there have been times when I've considered using the kid's chair as a weapon. The San Diego Zoo the weekend between Christmas and New Year's was the most recent. I've never actually done it, but it was very, very tempting.

While I would do it with my chair, I would never do it with a kids chair, perhaps another adult who encourages me to use them as a battering ram

I have very little patience for PETA, Greenpeace or most any 'eco' concern - most of them have no freaking idea what they are talking about.

Yup, the fact that it was the kid's chair is what kept me from actually doing it, but man was I sorely tempted. Actually, in the case of the zoo, the kid was sorely tempted as well. And that chair is a heavy sucker. It's a little bitty 14 inch chair, but it's one of the ones that reclines flat, and those are always heavy. I think this one weighs about 45-50 pounds. I'm not looking forward to the day (coming very soon) that he outgrows it and we have to get him a bigger one.

And also, as for those groups, I have no patience at all. I have words for them that would probably not even be acceptable here.
