    Are people genuinely .... URGH!

That's just wrong. If you're going to try to say that Muslims have to ('have to'?) somehow 'do enough' to stop extremists who hide under the label of Islam, then it's only fair to say that Christians have to 'do enough' to stop extremists who hide under the label of Christianity. And Jews, those who hide under the label of Judaism, and Buddhists, and and and.
Oh, and agnostics and atheists and undeclared, I suppose, will have to pick up the duty for the ones who don't use a religious label.

Or are we going to go based on eye colour? I'll go around asking all the blue-eyed people I see if they're planning to blow up a building, shall I?

Skin colour? Colour of the shoes they're wearing that day? Length of fingernails? Oh, I know! How about we base it on the name of the first pet?

Well there are people who DO do that. I know I've gotten tired of being told I'm not 'doing enough' to stop homophobic preachers. As if I should drop everything and change my life to be SOLELY dedicated to that.

It's a pretty common sentiment. I just got done making a very angry post about it somewhere else. It's just plain an excuse for bigotry. >_<

It's always a "whose ox is being gored" situation. Christians end up answering for homophobia or their various political leader representatives over the centuries that killed people. Atheists have to deal with a lot of various dictators over the years. White people have to deal with crackpots like the KKK and police officer overreach. African-Americans have had to deal with bombings or the beating of guys like Reginald Denny or the shootings that just happened in Brooklyn.

I've been out on holding groups responsible for individuals for years (something about a basic knowledge of psychology and political utility) but man people really do love that. Mainly because using that logic flaw works to set people against the group you don't like.

it gets better...in the Telegraph (NSW version of the Herald Sun) the letters in the wake of the Nutjob Siege and the Paris incident all pretty much had the same points:

-All Muslims should've left their jobs for the day and become actively involved in some shape or form, whether it was forcing the door of the cafe open or actively marching in the streets.
-All Muslims should speak out against it: silence means that you support it.
