  • single women "trapping" guy's sperm...

Single women who want to be pregnant and have a baby without a man to help raise the baby may basically have sex with as many men as possible-without some sort of birth control-in an effort to "trap" the man's sperm and therefore get pregnant. Reasons behind it may be: don't want to get married, think that they are superwoman and can therefore keep an eye on bubs themself and had a career etc.

All I can say on this is WHY?? What about artificial insemination? For anyone here who has been through it, does it cost anything? (which may be why) Besides exposing yourself to a whole host of diseases, that baby will grow into a child who might wonder why he/she doesn't have a dad, may want to find them and then discover that their mother doesn't know the biological dad! And for the record, these aren't the stereotypical "welfare" mums either who are trying to pop out another few for welfare payments or whatever reason, these are women who are in well-paying jobs and living comfortably.

    Your thoughts?

(I found info about this in a Cosmopolitan article)

The generation that is currenting attending or graduating from college grew up in single parent households. Many do not know who their fathers are. It's hardly a new practice, and there isn't any social stigma on the children. I don't think there's a huge emotional/psychological impact from not knowing your father when a significant fraction of your peers are in the same boat. It's entirely possible for a woman to "have it all". My mother kept a full time job and raised four kids. We didn't suffer from it. Artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization have some associated medical risks, is an invasive procedure, and cost time, money, energy, and emotion. The natural way works just fine.

I do think it's dishonest of a woman to have sex for the purpose of reproduction and not tell the man. He has a right to know his own blood. That said, if he doesn't want to knock up a stranger and never meet his child, it's his responsibility to use protection and/or abstain.

      Simple as that.

While I'm not against single mothers, I am against women like these, who seem to want to trap men. I think they may state that they're infertile or some other excuse i.e. I'm on the Pill etc. If I find the article, I'll put it up.

I suspect there aren't actually many women like this. If I'm wrong, why haven't I met any yet?

Oh yes, I'm an ugly bugger.

                Exactly.

What kind of dolt has sex with a woman he barely knows and doesn't use a rubber? If you don't want to impregnate someone, don't leave your semen lying around where that can happen.

Well Boozy, I don't think semen lay around.....they just brew and multiply inside the guy's balls waiting for their impending release right into the toilet or nearest napkin.

Women like the OP describes are pretty few and far between, but I have heard of ladies lying to men about being on birth control.

They're not "trapping" the men, unless they intend to find him later and shake him down for child support. The men don't lose anything that they don't freely give away. It's a little different if the woman lies about her birth control, but in the end it's each person's responsibility to prevent results that he doesn't want. The men are not victims here; the potential children are not victims here. I don't think these women are the most honest, upright citizens, but they're not hurting anybody but themselves (risk of VDs).

These women aren't even "trapping" the semen; there aren't millions of little sperm cells rushing to get away from a chomping Ms. Pacman egg cell, only oh no! The uterus walls have closed in! We're trapped in here, boys! Ah, she's going to eat us, she's going to eat us...! Wrong. All they're doing is inviting the sperm in to fulfill their biological imperative.

I hardly think this is a common phenomenon, considering that the only real sources of this story come from Cosmopolitan and Maury, neither of which are bastions of journalisitic integrity.

For the few cases where this might have happened, the only person I really feel sorry for is the kid. Yeah, being the child of a single parent has lost a lot of it's social stigma, but it's still nice to know where you came from. And of course there's the medical history aspect of it; knowing what diseases you're at risk for is very important.
