  • The CEO of Tesla Motors.....

complains that an employee (who I assume from the article is male and the employee is not named) took a small amount of time off for the birth of his child.

"I am extremely disappointed," Musk allegedly told the employee, who is not named. "You need to figure out where your priorities are. We're changing the world and changing history, and you either commit or you don't."

I like this statement in the comments
Elon Musk Doesn't Think Attending Your Child's Birth Is An Excuse to Miss Work" Obviously, he hasn't told that to many moms.
Just one more example the disconnected state of upper upper management.

...It is? Musk is more....eccentric, possibly crazy, I think its more a reflection of that then anything else. He will kill himself working right along side the guy he chides for not killing himself too. He falls into the category of "obsessive visionary" more than "disconnected upper management" and enjoys a lot of approval from his staff.

Also, in fairness, this is an "alleged" anecdote from an unnamed source in an unauthorized "tell all" autobiography.

I mean, the guy lost his 10 week old son to SIDS a few years back.

It is unsurprising that Musk is quite vocal in denying that and one other quote about calling himself a samurai.

Honestly, I'd be surprised that he'd say such a thing as a man who was very close to his own father and has 5 children of his own and who struggles to balance his work with his family life.

That kind of mentality wouldn't be tolerated by the Litter Box, and that's one decent thing I can say about working for this chain.

They preach work/life balance to their employees and have tools and resources available for those who want to get more information on how to balance everything.

Right now, my store manager is out on paternity leave for 2 weeks (Grasshopper and his wife welcomed their first baby last Thursday evening - a 9 lb. 1 oz. boy) and I don't recall hearing that anyone said he couldn't take the time off for that.

In fact, I'm not sure who was more excited about the baby's arrival: him or us!

I think if anyone higher up had tried, I'd like to think he'd tell them to stuff themselves. But that aside, we're holding down the store just fine in the meantime.

With this guy at Tesla, I don't see his future with the company being very long at the rate he's going. Not getting rid of someone like that would irreparably damage company morale (if there's any left at that level of corporate management) and also give a very negative image to the public.

And as we all know, companies do not want a negative company image. So if their board and shareholders care about that, then they should do the sensible thing and can this ham quickly and as quietly as possible.

Sounds like something a cult leader would say.

.......okay seriously you two. Musk is one of the founders of Tesla, as well as SpaceX. He's a primary driving force behind alternative energy and space travel in the US ( since the government doesn't give a rat's ass ) and he's willing to share ( Telsa offers its patents free of charge for the development of electric cars ).

Why are you guys shitting on him over some made up quote designed to sell a tell all expose book?
