Naked Art Class?

I wouldn't get naked, not ever. I have image issues that you wouldn't believe. Then again, talking about my image issues, showing the class the scars on my arms and ankles from self harming and describing my eating disorder would probably suffice, given that "baring your soul" is an alternative."Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

This doesn't sound like the kind of thing you'd easily forget, especially concerning your own child.Originally posted by Hyena Dandy View PostOr that she was told but forgot.
I think it's more likely that the student deliberately tried to hide it from her mother, because she knew that her mother would hit the roof if she found out."Come on. Donald Trump didn't think he was going to win this thing, either, and I'm guessing that right now, he is spinning out. I mean that the daughter knew, but forgot about it. People forget what/when the final is all the time."Nam castum esse decet pium poetam
ipsum, versiculos nihil necessest"

Under normal circumstances, yes. But being expected to appear nude in front of a class doesn't strike me as something that a student would likely forget.Originally posted by Hyena Dandy View PostPeople forget what/when the final is all the time.
No, I still think the most likely possibility is that the student intentionally concealed it from her mother."Come on. Nobody is expected to attend class in the nude. Plus "in front of the class" is terribly misleading. Anyone choosing to present their final in the nude is doing so as part of the class. It's a shared experience.Originally posted by Valinor View PostUnder normal circumstances, yes. Nevermind that being naked is only one option, and not the only option. That most people choose to do the naked part just shows that it's also the easier option.Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden

That the student didn't show up or pay attention on the first day of class is also possible.Originally posted by Valinor View PostNo, I still think the most likely possibility is that the student intentionally concealed it from her mother.

And I am the complete opposite. I could see myself asking the professor if I could actually take BOTH options, i.e., baring my soul, and doing it in the nude. Not just because I am perfectly fine being naked, but because I would think that would be the bigger challenge.Originally posted by Tama View PostI would transfer out of that class so fast. I neither want to bare my spirit nor my 200 lb naked body for all to see.
Of course, if I had to bare my soul through some kind of crafted art, rather than a performance, I'd be in serious trouble, as my artistic skills come from my brain and mouth, not from my hands, as it were.
I do find it interesting that most of the students chose the option of being nude over the option of baring their soul. While some people think that would be the more difficult of the two, when it comes down to it, for most people, it is probably far easier to get naked physically than to do so emotionally.
I can attest to this. Having worked at gentlemen's clubs and a clothing optional bar, I can tell you that after a while, nudity really isn't that big a deal. It's only our learned societal stigmas that make it so. In he gentlemen's club, for example, I stopped noticing the girls being nude. It was just their work uniform. If we went out for a bite or drinks after work, and one was wearing a sexy or revealing dress that wasn't part of their work wardrobe, I'd be far more likely to notice it, and find it sexy, even though I had just seen the girl naked for some hours. Also, seeing people of all ages, sizes, and shapes get naked at the clothing optional bar (as well as some clothing optional beaches, resorts, and events I've been to) almost certainly dilutes the effect of naked people on you.Originally posted by the_std View PostAfter a while, especially in high-level classes, nudity just ceases to have any stigma left.
Originally posted by Lindsay B. 1. Student concealed it from her mother.
2. Student forgot about it. Unlikely, considering how unusual it is, but still possible.
3. Student skipped or missed the first day of class, so somehow missed this particular item.
4. Student skipped or missed the first day and several other days, so the requirement surprised her.
5. Student just didn't tell her mother about it, because student didn't find it to be nearly as big a deal as her mother did.
6. Student didn't tell her mother, and then when the big day came, wasn't prepared, and whined to her mother about the unfairness of it.
My personal guess is that the most likely are 1, 3, or 5.
