First off, that's a tabloid.
Second, it was a show/demonstration and had no legal standing.
In other news, the sky is blue, the sun is still burning, and my knee still hurts.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers

Next up?
There have been people marrying objects for, well, centuries.
We've got a lady who married the Berlin Wall... a guy who married a sim game character... another woman and the Eiffel Tower (which is apparently female)... and let's not forget the guy who married a cardboard cutout of himself in a dress.Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden

Oh, but this is a robot/robot wedding. Or more accurately, this is a press stunt by a robotics company."Nam castum esse decet pium poetam

Even Fark at least gives a clever headline before it just drops a link.
You'd figure the Japanese would be working on better uses for robots (like they usually do), rather than see if they can have them go through a wedding ceremony.

I could be wrong but I viewed this more as a PR activity, to bring awareness to the maker of the groom robot, than it was meant to be some kind of social commentary. Kind of like how mattel will issue releases about what Barbie is 'doing' in her new job or her relationships. People don't understand that mean that mattell wants dolls to have person status or be allowed to get married or divorced or whatever, it's just advertising.

Yes, I'm sure the time planning a PR stunt has set back robotics in Japan by *decades*.
Seriously, what the hell is your problem here? I'm genuinely confused as to what your point is or why you posted this at all.

OK people, enough! Knock it off with the personal attacks! Any more of this, and the thread will be shut down and infractions will be handed out!--- I want the republicans out of my bedroom, the democrats out of my wallet, and both out of my first and second amendment rights. Whether you are part of the anal-retentive overly politically-correct left, or the bible-thumping bellowing right, get out of the thought control business --- Alan Nathan

Ya know, in addition to what Mike said - just so some of you know: Just because the mods aren't a huge presence over here doesn't mean we're not around.
The rules are RELAXED on Fratching, not non-existent. Enough is enough with the personal attacks.
All of you have been here long enough to know better.
