  • The Target "Controversy."

Target, apparently, is destroying society. They are destroying lives. In their ultra-PC, leftist strategy to unravel the very fabric of the social order and humanity itself, people are taking a stand. They plan to boycott their stores because this is a "slippery slope" to allowing men to use women's dressing rooms (even though stores built in the last decade or so have gender neutral neutral dressing rooms), creating gender neutral restrooms (which newer stores already have in the form of "family" restrooms), and the simple fact that they are violating God's law because he made men and women and not "neutrals" (what?).

Their facebook page is a beautiful disaster of pretentious outrage and well-deserved snark in response to that outrage. People are cutting up their Target cards by the hundreds, because they don't want to be made to "suffer" because of a few whiny liberal demands. They don't want to have to adjust their "busy schedule to pick through each piece of clothing to see if it's boys or girls." "Bras and jock straps same isle" simply cannot, and must not, be tolerated. For goodness sake, some people "have grandkids that have to deal with [Target's] idiotic decisions" and will no longer be shopping there. " In lieu of Target's choice to kow tow to parents suffering from their self-induced identity crisis," people have an obligation to boycott them. Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!

Why is this a thing? I'm seriously asking, what the bleeding fuck happened to society that this is now a hot topic that sparked so much rabid outrage? Nothing is changing in the stores except they are taking down something like half a dozen signs designating things like "Girls' Building Sets" from the "Building Sets." Target's statement was crystal clear about that. The layout of the stores will not be changing. Everything will still be where it was in the store a week ago, there just won't be signs in the toys and bedding that say some things are for "boys" and some for "girls." You can still identify the "girls" section because it's pink and sparkly, do you really need a sign so as to not be confused that you might accidentally buy little Billy a Barbie instead of whatever action figure is popular right now and turn him gay?

    Seriously, America, what the fuck?

I've been to MANY places that don't have "men's" or "women's" fitting rooms, just fitting rooms. It's nothing new. Where do these people live, under rocks?

But no one thought about it because they didn't have to. And that, I think, is the root of this clusterfuck of a controversy-that-isn't. If Target had just taken down the damn signs and did so without telling anyone they did it, no one would notice because the thought they were ever in place at all never would have occurred to them. Walmarts have had gender neutral dressing rooms far longer than Target and no one is worried about men and women using the "same" dressing rooms because they just accept it since that is how the dressing rooms were placed when the store was opened (or remodeled). A lot of people who seem concerned about this have mentioned that they'll be shopping at Kohl's from now on. Where there, again, is a single block of dressing rooms that are not designated by gender.

But no, this is a conspiracy that goes all the way up to part of "Queen Michelle's" devious plan to control American children and is related to her squad of "lunchroom Nazis" who inspect each child's tray at the school cafeteria.

Yeah, I seriously need to get away from their facebook page, but I can't make myself look away. It's like a train wreck. A train full of napalm and kittens crashing into a children's hospital.

That's what happens when companies expect praise, since we all know that only the people who have something bad to say will say anything at all.

I'm considering going over there now and writing a "Good for you!" post on their page to see what happens.

If you want to see some serious funny, some guy trolled the bigots by making some "helper" account on Twitter with the Target logo and then responding to them in various un-pc ways.

The frothing outrage is hilarious and oh so sad.

Heard about this a couple of days ago. I admit that I thought the change was unnecessary, but because of how insignificant of an issue this is. I don't think society will come close to collapsing or be affecting in anyway by this. Those claiming otherwise (mainly the reactionaries) are nuckin' futs.

Alas, the account was nuked, but if you're logged into Facebook, the guy made a public album of screenshots of all of the comments.

I feel so bad for Target's customer service people. They're getting all of the complaints about him when if people would just READ they'd see that it's not Target responding to them!

Compared to the frothing over the removing of gender-specific labels for toys and beds, it's probably a relief to get complaints they can legitimately dump without a care.

Also, it's worth noting that while all of those people are fleeing to Walmart... Walmart did away with gender-specific signage for toys a long time ago. Target is actually one of the last to do so.

Reading isn't their strong point once they start getting worked up. Otherwise, they'd know, for example, that the clothing is staying separated, because there's a logical *reason* for it to be: even articles that both men and women regularly wear are sized and fitted differently.

As for fitting rooms... you shut the door, with only yourself inside. You're fully dressed when you go in and when you come out. So what difference does it make? If anything, having everyone use the same ones should finish off the kind where you can easily see under and through the louvered doors without even trying, which would be all to the good. (Goes for restroom stalls, too.)

there's been one on facebook for a while they used to be called "customer service" but people actually thought they were the cs department of whatever company they were complaining to, so they just changed to "hope that helps" in effort to drive home the snark. they're hilarious.

My favorite complaint was from the guy who wanted to know how his wife would be able to find her tampons if they removed the gender-specific signs...I don't want to know who uses tampons as toys or bedding.
