Target is planning to put a full in-store bar in its stores.

Hey, if they can make money doing it, I'm not surprised they'll try it.

Doesn't affect me in any way. They'll never get a hold of a liquor license in NJ. We don't let them sell liquor as it is like other states and getting a liquor license is extremely tough due to how many are actually allowed to be owned in a town at once.

Sure, it's a fantastic idea. Wonder how many people who drove to the store will leave a little tipsier than before. Possibly with their kids in the car. Yeah, this'll end real well.

Just like people drive to bars and restaurants all the time? Most of them make okay choices regarding alcohol and driving, why would this be different?

For the most part people don't bring kids to a bar. Yes, the occasional idjit will. Besides with the usual retail SCs, adding alcohol on top of it makes me feel super bad for the employees. Especially if Drunky McDrunkerson decides to make the local Target his watering hole of choice.

And really, why do you need alcohol while shopping anyway? I don't get it.

And all the parents say: Because you have the kids with you.

This is just an easy way to get back all the customers who are confused as to which toys to buy their children because the no longer label toys as girl toys vs boy toys. Or maybe it is to keep them out forever since it must be bad to sell alcoholic drinks.

                  My take is this

                  1. I want to see drunk customers get into a full blown fight
                  2. I want to see some drunk customer at the CS counter
                  3. I want to see Target get sued over some drunk driver

See not so good an idea.

Another problem that should be solved with self-driving cars!

We have shopping centres over here with large stores, small stores, and some bar/restaurant operations. Alcohol is available there. As long as people follow the rules about not driving drunk, it's fine.

Interestingly, a decade or two ago the powers that be started a marketing campaign (about the eighties) that's been fairly successful and managed to persuade a large number of the population that drink driving is akin to social pariah status. It's been backed up with increasing sanctions, such as a minimum twelve-month driving ban for the first offence (can be permanent), a likely permanent driving ban after that, heavy fines and jail time, and so forth.

http://www.drinkdriving.org/drink_dr...tistics_uk.php for statistics over the years, and you can see where the campaigns came in and the slow decrease.

Our powers that be have not fucked about on this. The punishments are pretty severe. People have lost their jobs due to losing their licences. It astounds me when I hear of people in the US who have hit their fifth DUI offence and can still drive.

                      It's slowly working over here.

I'd hate to see this new idea combined with Black Friday shopping.

Some people over here in the states just don't give a shit. There was a guy on World's Dumbest on his THIRTEENTH DUI arrest...

And I know several people, my dad included, with at least two DUIs. The booze is just more important to them than anything else. Fees and fines and court be damned, they are doing what they want and that's final!

No license? Suspended license? Who gives a shit, I need mah booze!

                            !
That kind of stuff was VERY common in my state (we have a much deserved reputation in this "hobby" and still have somewhat weak DUI laws) and even after the change in the laws a few years ago to problem still occurs more times than the state legislators would like to think.

Heck ask Blas about a few of her Ex's and how these baby men got out of or around multiple DUI's.

A neighbor of mine years ago finally got jail time (10 years) AFTER 9 DUI convictions with the last one being DUI and vehicular homicide.

My state takes the car away if someone is caught driving after their third DWI. They don't impound it, they sell it at auction unless the car was stolen.
