  • Fox's Bastardization of Foriegn shows.

Okay, I know I'm gonna get heat for this one, but here goes.

I'm sick of Fox taking good british shows and outright ruining them! Take for example Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.

Now in Britan, The restaurant owner invites Ramsey in to help fix things. Ramsey's is definitely there to help, and the owner is willing to work with him. Often times it is about showing how to run their business at less cost with better food (going local, often organic). I can't recall an episode where the owner flat out refused to accept the help. On more than a few episodes Ramsey being polite, friendly, and downright humorous is common.

Now we come to The US version. I swear more than a few owners intentionally ruined their outlet just to set up a shouting match with Ramsey. Others seem like the producer went to the owner and told him to start being an ass just to get a rise out of Ramsey. The show is shouting, shouting, more shouting, even more shouting, and if there's time, a few seconds of showing how to make good food and how to run a business right.

Sadly, it seems like Fox's approach to shows is to get a host not for any good points they may have, but simply for the rare moments when they're total dicks and produce that situation all the time. I can't even watch the US version of Kitchen Nightmares anymore because episode after episode of Ramsey being pissed off from start to end gets boring after a while.

Fox is a crappy network; I'm not surprised that they bugger up shows.

That is because we as a society, loves that can of crap. Just look at Reality TV shows, they all have someone bad mouthing someone or they all have fights on it. Now FOX, is the worst, when they air a show that is a US version or another countries. They always fuck it up some how. I wonder if Fox had heard of the old saying "If it is not broke, don't fix it.

Well, the worst part about it is Fox shows him as a rude, brash asshole where if he doesn't get his way he has a tantrum.

If you have access to it, watch the F-Word and the original British version of kitchen nightmares. They show off the true Ramsey. The one that has a real passion for food and enjoys working with people who are just as passionate. Heck, one episode of the F-Word he helped one of his guest chefs propose to his girlfriend. (okay, death clamp around his neck and phoned his girlfriend and set him up is more accurate, but still)

Does that sound like someone a hateful, bitter , I'm-better-than-you chef would do?

Red Dwarf? (Sorry, first one that came to mind... even had one of the original Dwarfies in it...and it still sucked!)

I've heard they did a Fawlty Towers... and also heard they did it without Basil!!! (I really hope I was told wrong....).

The answer seems to simply be that UK and US humour is different. But, they see something the UK has done, liked some of it, but not the rest, and thus the change is on.... and completely fails from the UK point of view. (I like UK humour... mostly... I sort of wonder how Monty Python would go if it was Americanised....)
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

First one I ever saw that was bastardised by US production values was 'Dear John'. I used to love that as a sitcom back when I watched TV. The pilot episode they did was atrocious. It failed to take into account the need for genuine comedy.
