  • Adam Lambert Hysteria on AI

What is with the mass hysteria on American Idol when it comes to Adam Lambert? To me, he's almost worse than Sanjaya from two years ago!

He doesn't sing, he screeches. His singing sounds like me in the car on the way to work late at night screeching at the top of my lungs to Celine Dion's "All By Myself" with the overly exaggerated falsetto and high pitch.

I think it's pathetic that mass groups of stupid little girls just start wailing and going bananas when he takes the stage and blasts all of our ear drums away, and it's even worse that the two female judges think he is just the cat's meow.

Worst of all....it looks like he is going to win. I'm really looking forward to hearing him multiple times an hour on the radio after he wins and comes out with his own CD of screeching, screaming and wailing. He RUINED Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", among other classic songs.

Maybe I shouldn't be so into American Idol, but how does someone so tacky looking and over the top make it so far? And since when did shrieking like a 5 year old girl = singing talent?

I've come to the conclusion that, these days, you have to be weird and obnoxious to be on tv. Half the commercials i see lately are just weird looking, untalented people who look like they haven't showered in 3 months and sound like they dropped out of the third grade. Apparently it's believed that's what the public wants to see. God knows why.

as a slight off topic, but still related. Reason number 1254 why I hate America... Entertainment Weekly had an article on him recently talking about how Adam Lambert was the biggest thing to come to American Idol in years... ok... then they said it... "and it isn't just because he's gay"
*insert long line of foul language and shouting here*
Why is that even an issue? I had no idea one's sexual preference had any impact on their singing abilities... I'm gay, does that mean I can go on American Idol and become an instant hit... no I can't, because I'm not that good looking and my singing causes pain in animals.
So why is that the one thing that so many people have latched onto with Adam Lambert?

You just described Adam Lambert; so go on, have at ye. XD

I have to say that the winners of these contests don't ever seem up to much; I only ever watch X-Factor, the English equivilent, for the bad auditions; when people start getting good, I get bored and switch off. Most of the people who won only had moderate success, if that, before they faded into obscurity. Will Young is the only one who springs to mind who didn't, or Leona Lewis.

and my singing causes pain in animals.
Doesn't that make you a good candidate for "So you think you've got talent"?
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

Why is he still there let alone popular? 2 reasons: Sympathy and mocking, and liability.

            1. Sympathy and mocking. He's not getting the votes he is because he's actually good, but because he is gay. Look at Steve Wozniack on Dancing with the Stars. Even those who wanted him to succeed have been saying he should not have made it past the first round, let alone get to the finals. He got there because it's good publicity for someone who doesn't fit the ideals to progress. As for the mocking, it's not mocking him, it's mocking the show. The attempt last season to get someone horrendous winning failed, so it's time for round 2 to prove the show is a crock.

            2. Liability. Most of us in the retail/service industry knows this one all too well. If he got eliminated first round, he would have filed a lawsuit for discrimination, claiming he was eliminated because he's gay. Best to keep him in to avoid the bad press and the lawsuit, and because it's been blatantly known they manipulate the votes, it would come as no surprise if that was the reason.

except, and I know this is open for debate, but I think Adam Lambert is good looking... and I'm not ashamed to admit it (it's the hair... give me longish dark hair and I am smitten )

I think all American Idols are overrated, at least until the season finishes. And then it appears that everyone gathers their wits about them again, and the winners settle into their place on the popularity scale. Usually much lower than "superstar", but somewhere above the guy who sings karaoke at the local pub.

I don't watch American Idol, so I found some internet clips of this Adam Lambert. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I don't think it can be said that he can't sing. He sings very well. One may not like his voice or his style, but he's not talentless.

yeah... as i said before... he's not bad. can't say i'd buy him but. he's not bad. i'd like to consider myself somewhat unbiased by all the hoopla mostly cos i had no idea who he was before today.

overly exaggerated falsetto and high pitch
He's not as high pitched as the guy from Britons Got Talent - Greg Pritchard. Apparently he sings Counter Tenor (male soprano).

Ugh, I'm just ready for this whole mess to be over. I'm from Arkansas, and a lot of my friends are still there, and they're all fired up about Kris Allen because "he's a hometown boy". My Facebook wall has just been absolutely spammed with people bitching about voting, not being able to get through, and lah de FREAKING dah!!! Just STFU, already!!!

American Idol is getting in the way of me watching the Yankees. I don't need to elaborate on how much more this makes me hate this already stupid ass show.

Dancing with the Stars is finally over. One less show to put up with.

But wait! So You think You Can Dance? is about to start. I told my sister that if the Yankees are on, she can't watch it in the living room and then she told me, "One person can't take over the TV like that." My mom nodded her head in agreement. I responded with, "Wanna try me?" No takers. MY Yankees!!!

X-Factor will be starting soon. XD Call me a bitch, but I love watching all the no-hopers and wannabes at the beginning; when people start getting good, I switch off.
